ahh, just always surprised when I come across someone with that opinion. I think they've gotten better with every record, just hoping this follows the trend.
Five Score wasn't a bad record, I just think it was too polished and lacked a lot of the heart found on Mhmm. I enjoy the concept behind FNSD, and I can see why it was the album he needed to make, but a lot of it came off as lazy filler. Must have been exceedingly cathartic for him, but the tracks I love on there are few and far between.

I guess it's just personal preference in songwriting then. I thought it was their most consistant album and I actually find a good portion of Mmhmm to be lazy filler.

Say whatnow? I would not have guessed. I missed that apparently.

Can you or someone explain what you mean by this?

You're going to need to explain that one, hoss.

When they were recording FANSD and it came time to record Matt's vocals, he got sick and was unable to record them in the studio during the alotted time they had to record them. So they ended up using "scratch tracks" which, from what I gather, are the vocals singers will sing live with the band to help guide the recording of the rest of the album instrumentation. They're basically demo vocals--and Matt's vocals on FANSD in this case were used from those demo tracks in place of him recording studio vocals. The band was pleasantly surprised at how good Matt's live, scratch vocals were, so they used them in place of legit studio recorded vocals (multiple takes, etc.). This was documented in at least one or two interviews around when the album came out. Fun fact.

(And someone else responded about this already, I just saw, but whatever).

Damn, I never knew that. And to be honest, I couldn't even tell. Very interesting...

Can't wait for this record.

To me this shows how talented and what a great voice Matt has. The fact scratch vocals were used that is.

This album might be a life defining one for me. Seems to be shaping up to come out sometime during my final semester of college, or just post graduation.
