Sometimes when you meet someone you have this instant feeling that tells you, if we ever get involved, someone is going to get hurt. When I was writing this, I would walk home alone at night when the city seemed its loneliest and listen to the Gin Blossoms, trying to make sense of that feeling and pick apart the reasons why this person was the way he was. It's easy to get close with someone if you have the same flaws, like you almost glamorize the things that are wrong with you. It's not a good basis for a healthy, stable anything but let's be honest: most of us just do what we want to do anyway.

Matchbox Cars

Matchbox Cars is about falling for your friends with benefits and being confused about how they feel towards you because sometimes they act like they really like you and sometimes they act like they don't care at all. You don't want to like them but at the same time you don't want to mess up what you already have by telling them that you actually like them a lot, so you just don't do or say anything. They have this totally different idea of you because you can't really act like yourself around them. It's like talking in circles.

Miles & Interstates

This song is a pretty self explanatory. It's about meeting someone on tour and having a weirdly emotional and confusing relationship -- the kind where you sit in the back of your van staring at the mile markers on the highway just thinking about once you get to the next city, will they want to hangout with you or will they act like you don't exist? It's exhausting because it's amazing when it's good and awful when it's not, and you're sick of thinking about it. At the same time, you know by the end of the tour, you're going separate ways regardless.

Replacement Parts

Replacement parts is about coming to terms with and embracing your flaws. Maybe you're clumsy or indecisive or have random mood swings and certainly don't help yourself feel better -- but that's okay. You are who you are and there is someone out there who loves you for all of you, even the bad parts. This song is about finding that person that you're better around and letting go of those negative parts of yourself.

Sick of It

Sometimes everyone hits a low, and sometimes when you think those lows can't get any lower, they do. This song is about being in that low so long you can't even remember how you got there - but a lot of that has to do with your attitude. You can choose to not help yourself or make it worse, which everyone is guilty of at some point or another, but eventually you just get sick of it and realize that you are strong and can turn things around even if it's not easy.

Ticklish

I wrote Ticklish about hanging out in my room with a boy. It's about that feeling of not knowing whether someone is hanging out with you because they like you or because they're just bored and no one else was around. You never really go out together or talk about real things but you like them so much you'd do anything to be around them, even if that means just staring at a wall and not saying anything.
