This is quite a different take compared to your original, "isn't AA asking a patient to cure their own disease?" Your follow-up isn't saying that as you add a variety of qualifiers. As someone that's been through a similar program, and has spent a lot of time studying the 12 steps of AA ... I find a characterization of the patient curing their own disease extremely misguided if not harmful and blatantly wrong.
