Maybe not akin to worship lyrics, but the religious topics were never subtle.
I mean the topics were there, just they didn't overwhelm me by any means. Maybe subtle wasn't the best word choice.

i wish the initial idea of doing a Emery acoustic album (with Devin briefly returning to the band to play on it) wouldn't have been scrapped. i'm excited to hear it

Review and score articulate exactly what I expected from this album. Will still check out, but I'm not expecting to be floored.

Either way, it's a nice diversion until the next Emery LP drops.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. I don't see a problem with it.

I think between that comment and saying "two frontmen", he's saying that it sounds like the reviewer is talking about Toby and Devin, not Toby and Matt.

I like it, Emery has always had a softer side. They routinely played acoustic sets and I believe even recorded an acoustic ep before. The first time I saw them at Cornerstone 05 was an acoustic set actually.

This is pretty good.

As I recall it, they played a couple of acoustic sets at Cornerstone 2006 too.

Maybe I got my years mixed up or maybe they did it both years, but hey you could have been at the same show as me since I went both 05 and 06 and worked the main Cornerstone cd merch booth in the tents.

I'm really only a fan of Emery's harder side, but I did enjoy this album quite a bit.

It's definitely possible. I spent a fair amount of time in the merch tent every year I went.

And to you as well. Definitely won't complain about encountering a fellow Cornerstone goer.

I will have to look for you once I am on a computer which doesn't block Facebook (as I am at work).

Not a fan of Emery, other then a few of their hits. But I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I think that this review is a little harsh and the lower score may keep some people from giving it a listen. I would definitely say it was worth the $8.
