Specially hed pe and taproot. This generations talking heads and television, respectively

Like I said, about half of those bands were important... I personally like both Taproot and Hed Pe (Broke)

What about Korn, System of A Down, Linkin Park, Incubus, RATM, Deftones.... were none of those bands important?

A lot of classic rock simply because I haven't given it a fair shot. Looking to change that.

Pretty much this. Heavier music also doesn't really do anything for me, though I can find some stuff I enjoy once in a while.

okay... just about anyone who's every studied music would disagree with you...

I'm not a fan of most of those bands, but they were HUGELY important to the culture/shaping of music at the time

People study music. If you want to put labels on it, that's up to you.

RATM, SOAD, Incubus and Deftones to an extent were important to the generation, but may or may not have a huge long term legacy. Korn and Linkin Park were just popular, and played a style of music that got stale quickly and wasn't very strong to begin with.

I pretty much agree with you... I feel like Korn and Linkin Park had some impact on the future of music... Linkin Park brought hip hop to a crowd that wouldn't normally listen to hip hop, and brought rock to the hip hop crowd...

RATM is one of the most important bands of the last 20 years in my opinion.

Those bands were very successful, but what did they actually add to culture/music? There is no innovation, no originality... just commercial success. The genre died out like an ugly fad and we are all better for it.

It's hard to deny RATM's importance/influence, anyone doing so needs their head checked, but when the hell did they become nu metal? lol

Lol literally none of those bands listed are significant to anyone or anything outside of nu metal.
