man didn't realize there was so few albums I really loved from this year. Next year should be awesome though...

Maybe I'm missing something...but how are ATL and Circa Survive the same band? What EOTY lists are you looking at?

you gotta realize yellowcard was one of the first bands to define that sound, not to mention they have a freaking violin...you can't really pull the "generic" card on the genre's original bands

ATP isn't all about that style of music though, and there's a chance that none of those albums made their top 10.
But within the genres they cover, there is quite a bit of variety on that list. Not including Frank Ocean doesn't make these bands similar to each other.

Alter the Press doesn't really focus on music as a whole, they are pretty specific with what they cover, so it does't really surprise me that none of those are included in their end of the year list

edit: but yeah I mean for the specific genres they cover the list is pretty varied so I get what this guy is saying

Let me rephrase that: variety of music. None of the bands are that similar to each other. They fit within many different sub-genres and genres.
I don't think it's that crazy; it comes down to how you define genre, and how annoyed you are about your favorite album not making the cut.

I hold 0 weight on what albums alter the press thinks are the best of 2012. This is quite possibly the least diverse list ive seen so far

No Fiona Apple or Cat Power, no care.
