if they had given a review of "mirrors" we'd have a better idea but it really doesn't matter. pitchfork reviews are important for independent/smaller artists cause it can make a career. i think we all agree justin doesn't need their boost.

Meh. They're not as important as they want you to believe.

There are a few tales of albums and bands either doing considerably well after a BNM or significantly worse after getting panned. It's on their wiki page somewhere.

It's hard to deny their audience size and the effect that a BNM designation has on a record that's accessible to a degree for the casual member of their audience. Pop records like that Autre Ne Veut record definitely get a much bigger boost than an album like Iceage.

I know they're absurdly imprecise but everything available tells me Pitchfork dwarfs AP. Facebook fans, twitter followers, frequency of citations in review aggregates...Pitchfork is a massive publication. Most recent info I can find (from 2010) says they average 30 million hits a month/250k + per day. If AP is that big then it's much larger than I ever thought.
