Eh I disagree. I think there is a huge difference between pop-culture references and social commentary. Family Guy = pop-culture references, South Park = social commentary.

I LOVED the fact that Scott Tenorman and his Chili Con Carnival were direct references to the Joker and his demented carnival in "The Killing Joke." Absolutely brilliant.

Stone and Parker have really outdone themselves. Managing to work in so many callbacks and pop culture references all while maintaining the integrity of the story and making some profound points. I mean, to some extent, this is what they have been doing for years, but these past two episodes were prime examples of their mastery.
