Kjartan Sveinsson has left Sigur Rós permanently. The band revealed the news today during their AMA on Reddit. On a positive note, the band stated that their new album would be "more aggressive" this time around. You can watch a tour teaser that features some new music in the replies.
So stoked that they're already working on new music. Valtari was my favorite Sigur Ros release. If that clip is a good representation of what the new music will sound like, then their sound is continuing to evolve, which is awesome.
I'm a fan of this band, not a huge enough fan where I know all of the song titles and what albums they appear on, but enough of a fan that I appreciate their music and always go out of my way to check out their new work. I can't honestly say I know who the departing member is or who they were to the band, but I am pretty excited for this more "aggressive" sound. I love the ethereal sound of Sigur Ros, but I am super curious to hear what they would sound like if they ramped it up.
