Off With Their Heads / Four Letter Word - One for the Road [Split 7”]
Record Label: No Idea Records
Release Date: November 12, 2007
Who?
Minneapolis punk band Off With Their Heads and veteran UK hardcore group Four Letter Word. Off With Their Heads represent the best of the No Idea scene, with snarling vocals and songs that were clearly designed with energetic live shows in mind, while Four Letter Word rely more on a 90s hardcore sound.
How is it?
Clocking in at just over nine minutes, this split won’t exactly change the musical landscape, but it is a nice indication of the talents of both bands. Off With Their Heads’ “Four the Four” comes out swinging and has the energy of early Jawbreaker at their best. Four Letter Word’s “Honour System” is extremely in-your-face, suggesting a more snotty MDC. Both bands play blisteringly fast and each offer up two extremely catchy songs. The lyrics aren’t exactly fantastic, but if you don’t read the liner notes, you probably won’t be paying too much attention to them anyway. Pick this up for a brief, inexpensive look into two promising bands.
