In my personal experience touring with a band that doesn't have a super nice bus a possible factor would be their booking agency giving them a terrible routing.. (I know I hate it when people say, "I use to tour manage/be in a touring band.")

Smaller bands don't have drivers that can handle it so its tough...

ive totally been there and its such a weird feeling to not even feel tired, but then find yourself just waking up from something you didnt even feel happen. and even with sleeping at a rest stop, which i also did for a few hours, its not enough if you dont have someone else there awake with you. always drive with a wing man, somebody to talk to if youre doing the whole distance driving thing. lucky for me, i didnt get in an accident. i woke up just as my rental car from tour was inches from a semi in the next lane over. that would have been unfortunate to the max haha.

That's so scary. I know so many people who have died, spent months in a coma, or broken multiple bones from falling asleep at the wheel. I'm glad that they're okay.
