i think Jon Gnarr , the mayor of the Icelandic capitol / largest city Reykjavik is possibly the coolest and most interesting political figure in the world right now.
He started out as a musician in the 1980's Icelandic punk scene , where he became friends with Bjork.
Later in the 90's he became one of Iceland's most well known comedians.
In the aftermath of the late 2000's financial crisis in Iceland he formed his own satirical political party called "Best Party" mainly to poke fun at Iceland Politics and with a platform that included ending corruption , canceling debt , equality of sexes , transparency in government ,free towels in all swimming pools, a polar bear for the Reykjavík zoo , and a drug free Parliament by 2020
In 2010 Best Party ran for city council seats and the mayor's office , with nobody expected to win anything. To the establishment's surprise they won 6 out of the 15 city council seats and Jon Gnarr won the race for Mayor.
One of his first declarations as mayor was that
"We will not enter into a coalition government with anyone who has not seen HBO's The Wire."
It's become a tradition for him to appear in the city gay pride parade in drag every year
Anyway, to answer the question, I like John Prescott. He's old-school Labour, isn't afraid to take the piss out of himself, he flicked the V's to journalists and he punched a bloke who threw an egg at him. I really like him.
Regardless of his politics I personally love the story about a couple of radical students trying to kidnap Alec Douglas Home while he was PM, and him thwarting them by sitting them down with some beers and chatting them out of it.
