Apparently their video to their new single is online on VH1's website. Thoughts?

Youtube rip of the video:

It's still a fun Hanson song, but I think this is their weakest lead single in a few records. The drumming seems so uninspired, especially for Zac, who's brilliant at bringing flair to the simplest of beats. The chorus and horns are nice, but neither grab me in the same way they did on 'Thinking 'Bout Somethin'.' Maybe I just need to stop comparing this song to older Hanson tracks, and appreciate it as a stand-alone work.

I think it's quite good. The melodies are really different. I'm very intrigued for this album.

I was told today that my music opinions were invalid because I said Hanson was the best live band I'd ever seen outside of Prince.

This album is pretty awesome. Obviously too early to decide where it sits within their discography, but the slightest return to their rock roots is doing the trick for me right now. Never expected this album to open up with the type of riff it did.

Alright, nvm. Second listen through, this is fucking great. This middle section, especially 'Juliet' and 'Already Home', contains some of the best tracks of their career.

All I've listened to today. Racked up probably 6 or 7 plays of the whole thing. For whatever reason, and I know I'm probably wrong about this, I get a somewhat aggressive 'we have something to prove' feel from this entire thing. There's just an little extra punches scattered throughout so many of the arrangements and I love it.

You're getting me pretty excited, haha. How are the vocals divided? I like them all well enough but I'm always more fond of Taylor's tracks so I'm hoping he still has the majority on here.

Taylor definitely still has the majority, but from what I can tell, they're a bit more evenly split than usual. There's even songs that feature lead vox by more than one of the guys, which I think is a first.

EXACTLY THE FEELING I GOT. The record is like "HEY MOTHER FUCKERS. WE MOVED PAST MMMBOP.....13 YEARS AGO. CATCH UP, WORLD. WE ARE BRILLIANT INDEPENDENT POP MUSICIANS."

God, this is a fantastic record. My favorite from them in 10 years....possibly 13-can't decide if I like this or "Underneath" better, but I think this wins out.

I am excited- how is it compared to The Walk, do you think? (That's my favorite Hanson album.)

Their songwriting has stayed steady, if not improved. While there are hints of the R&B sound so prevalent in Shout It Out, it's much more straight pop-rock a la Underneath and The Walk, although much more focused on the 'rock' end. The harmonies are still unsurprisingly strong, and the arrangements, musically, are more complex than ever. There's some play with time signatures and syncopation in the guitar and piano work, definitely a lot more than there's been on records past. Throughout all that, though, it's still just catchy and melodic as hell. I haven't really given much thought to where I see it having shortcomings, but at this point, I'm starting to wonder if that's just because there aren't many to spot.

EDIT: Whoops, I just realized I never answered your question. My answer now is 'definitely as good, if not a bit better.'

Haha, it's alright. You've sold it perfectly well. I am excited to hear a complex, rockier Hanson.
