great review. i'd have probably scored it higher than an 8/10, a 9 maybe. i love everything about this record. i've been a long-time fan of this band so naturally i was incredibly stoked to hear this record. i had no idea what to expect, but this definitely exceeded whatever expectations i had.
i disagree with you on what you wrote about 'part II'. adore that song. i think it could be especually awesome live, played back to back with 'let the flames begin'. also, i think 'future' is one of the best songs they've ever written. what an amazing closer. the false ending or whatever you wanna call it is so cool, too. reminded me of a jimmy eat world song for some reason.
lyrics on this record are great. some songs are so full of hope and i think lots of people can relate to these songs. i can't even choose favourites here cause i'd just end up naming like 12 songs. anyway, i can't wait to see the band in june and see all this live.
Also, calling this right now - the band will play "Let The Flames Begin" and "Part II" as a medley live.
yeah they'll probably play it back to back, just like say anythink did with 'admit it' and 'admit it again'. should be cool. i'm seeing them at a festival in june, should be especially awesome if they'd play it there
The middle of this record is easily my favorite - from "Ain't It Fun" through "Hate To See Your Heart Break." The guitar tones deserve every compliment, and Hayley's vocals sound incredible. Love the old-fashioned/retro 70s pop feel of a lot of the tracks.
Great record, with a few tracks that I skip. I'd call 3/4 of it the band's best work.
Also, why are you guys talking like Paramore was a heavy rock band? they have always had a poppy sound, only like 3 songs are straight pop, out of 17. The rest have around the same amount of poppines that their past albums.
