The only thing that separated Cartel from the pack was their ability to combine a fast tempo, ridiculously killer riffs, and beautiful vocals (especially the melodies). They hinted at this in 2004 with their debut EP, and they sure-as-fuck showcased it on Chroma.
For different reasons (which itself is pretty interesting, and kind of cool that they try new things each time, even if it hasn't worked), each of their albums (as a whole, minus a few select tracks here and there) after that have fallen so flat. First impressions on listening to Collider, it's kind of almost.. embarrassing to listen to, mostly due to the lyrics, starting with the first track.
I suppose it's mediocre pop-punk/whatever, but there's so many good bands, there's just no room for something so average.
They could probably put together a solid Warped Tour set, though, rooted in Chroma tracks with a few of the standouts from 2006-2013.. which is pretty much all you need from this band.
(wah wah wah opinions)
