Radiohead? Wow? Really?
Kid A's has to be one of my favorite artworks ever. Ok Computer's and The King Of Limbs' also look great, imo. Those three alone invalidate them from having "consistently terrible cover art" to me.
(Preface: Yeah, I know, personal opinions, etc. This should be a given in any conversation about art and entertainment, but I'll throw it out there now, just in case.)
This is pretty bad:
...and this is perhaps the worst cover I have ever seen a respectable band consider a remotely good idea:
is their best artwork and a stones throw from being dope, but there's still weird stuff going on there. I also don't hate Hail to the Thief
or In Rainbows
, but they're not impressive, and the rest is just meh. The King of Limbs
looks like a bad Photoshop project.
The most frustrating part is that the band clearly has an eye for good art, which sneaks up here and there. Like, some of the artwork accompanying TKoL outside of that cover is rad, and Amok
is cool. They somehow just consistently underachieve when it comes to the image that will best represent their work.
