They went platinum...Albums usually only have to go gold to be considered a success in the industry. But again, I don't know exactly how much money was spent on marketing.

The album has sold 1,112,182 copies in the US certifying it as Platinum.

Virgin probably doesn't like the new stuff they are writing/they don't think it will do well.

Edit: Also, don't rule out the fact that they could've left on their own, instead of being dropped.
