I wrote one. it's called "Flowers"
Dandelions carry the scent of Spring
No matter what the weather
I caught the pollen in a cough
From an illness last November
Against a blustering wind
I watched her blossom in the fall
And I felt the warmth of summer
Like it had never gone at all
She was born in the Big Apple
But her heart was Texas sized
A sunflower nestled brightly
Among the grass where she resides
Golden hair just like the sun
Glistened above her ocean eyes
But she was taken by tender hands
That I only wished were mine
I used to look to her for sunshine
Haven't seen much of it these days
It stopped coming through my window
When the better man drew the shades
Now she's an empty chair
At a chess game made for two
All my tact and effort wasted
On an opponent who makes no moves
But it's still goldenrod in the morning
Daises in the afternoon
Whenever I see flowers
I only think of you
From the first time that I saw you
Held your petals in my hands
If I told you I loved you
Would you understand?
Enjoyed this. Particularly the line "an empty chair at a chess game made for two." Where could I hear the song?
Dashboard confessional's The Secret's in the telling is another good one.
"'Cause you will be somebody's girl
And you will keep each other warm
But tonight I am feeling cold."
