Cold Hearted - Lunacy
Record Label: Life to Live Records
Release Date: May 2013
Cold Hearted, hailing from Pensacola, FL brings a distinctively northern sound to a region already known for its aggressive styles. Released by Life to Live Records their debut EP Lunacy brings gut wrenching metallic take on the time tested brand of hardcore known as New York Hardcore.
A brooding mix of Cro-Mags, Biohazard, Violation and Trapped Under Ice, Cold Hearted throws down the steel hammer quite a few times on this release. The introductory track “Potters Clay” wastes no time as its pummeling opening riffs blend perfectly with the thunderous rolling drums behind it. Blending perfectly as they coherently break out into an open ended breakdown followed by thrash core dominance. This song takes all aspect of NYHC, fast thrash parts, slow open ended breakdowns, screeching Slayeresque solos and even the coveted clean guitar break and rolls it into one dominating song. “New Life” is another stand out track. Bringing a purely trash sound to the table bands such as Violation, Pulling Teeth and the chord progressions of early Darkest Hour are immediately brought to mind. Exploding into an aggressive forward charge of chants and cutting guitar riffs, this song would be a great direction for the band in the future.
Cold Hearted brings a very exciting and aggressive take on a genre seeping in mediocrity. Their energy and anger can be heard in every riff, break and beat on the record. On top of the pure intensity of the band, their ecstatic style, a mix of all types of NY inspired hardcore, and biting vocal lines keep the listener tuned in and hooked. Big things seem to be on the horizon for Cold Hearted within the hardcore scene.
