The Photographic - Pictures of a Changing World
Record Label: Galaxia Records
Release Date: March 11, 2008
The Photographic are an instrumental rock duo out of Louisville, Kentucky, made up of guitarist Jamey See Tai and drummer Chad Blevins. Placing heavy influence on ambience, the duo craft a CD full of relaxing post-rock songs that exemplify all the good qualities of post-rock heavyweights Explosions in the Sky.
Seamlessly put together, Pictures of a Changing World flows amazingly, taking you on a relaxing spin through progressive indie. The third track, “Directions,” seems to touch on the Explosions in the Sky influence and yet creates its own unique niche, with the drums flawlessly backing the guitar until they meld back together.
At times the record seems to be pacing itself, then more up-tempo songs such as “Bridge Runs” and “Night Noise” come along, and the difference keeps you going along for the beautiful ride.
As the album draws to a close with the second longest song on the album, clocking in at just over eight minutes, “A Contrivance” sums up the duo’s skills and abilities inside their ambient indie realm.
The Photographic have assembled a solid debut album of ambient post-rock, perfect for the background music of an evening on the porch with friends, reading a book with a cup of coffee, or many other relaxing activities. This album, which marks the first official recordings of the band's six years of existence, can only be viewed as the perfect base for a growing audience to appreciate their brand of post-rock.
