This is a popular opinion amongst people who haven't given their music a real sit-down listen. I'm not saying I just assume this about you, but if it does describe you and you haven't yet given them an in-depth look, do it with MVotC. It's already made fans out of a half dozen of my friends who previously felt the exact same way.
Upbeat/non-"droning" songs other than the singles to give a try are definitely Finger Back and Unbelievers.
I picked up their first album a while ago because a couple of their songs like A-Punk were catchy, and gave it plenty of listens but eventually realized the album was boring and they were completely overrated. I'll certainly give the new album a listen to see if it changes my mind but I'm not honestly expecting much. The just feel like they have all the trappings of an indie band that actually isn't all that good but someone somewhere decided they were and no one wants to look foolish and admit they don't really like them.
There are enough great albums coming out in the next two weeks alone I'm not going to lose any sleep if I can't get into this one despite how good everyone else claims it is.
