is the music industry really so fucked that a band goes platinum with their debut LP and they don't have a label to release a follow-up on?

or maybe they had a keyman clause in effect when their A&R/Manager left the label? either way... what the hell?

I had heard that someone at the label (Jason maybe?) decided to spend close to $5 or $6 per unit to break this band. If that's the case then I imagine that Guy Hands decided that the project wasn't profitable enough to keep around.

Crazy. I thought that single was solid, but really didn't think it had the legs to get as many adds as it did...I was surprised. I figured someone's wallet must've taken a hit to get it to where it got. I also figured that 1.1mil sold would be more than enough to put the label in the black.

How the hell can someone be stupid enough to pour so much money into a band that 1.1mil sold isn't profittable (especially nowadays)?
