Falling In Reverse-The Drug In Me Is You
Record Label: Epitaph Records
Release Date: July 25, 2011

Before I begin, I want to say that this review is in no way influenced by the actions of lead singer Ronnie Radke in a good or a bad way. This review is 100% about the music, actions aside.

Falling In Reverse was formed in 2008. The band is led by lead singer Ronnie Radke (Ex Escape The Fate lead singer), along with guitarist Jacky Vincent, drummer Ryan Seaman, rhythm guitarist Derek Jones, and bassist Ron Ficarro. This is their debut album.

The album starts off with "Raised By Wolves". This song is one of the catchier few in the CD. As a fan of post-hardcore music I must say, the instrumentals are very sharp. Sharper than the normal bands now. The guitar work provided in this track by Vincent and Jones is exquisite. "Raised By The Wolves" is an exciting track and entertains with the blend of great screams and better singing. It's a great start. The second track is titled, "Tragic Magic". It is the most peaceful track on the CD. One problem with this song is that the lyrics seem to be just Radke bragging about how he's "King of the music scene" He actually says that. Another problem is Radke's la-la-la's. It sounds idiotic. It's not even catchy. The chorus on the other hand, is very catchy. It actually makes me sing along with Radke's boastful lyrics. Crazy, huh? "Magically, I turned tragedy into melodies/ Sold for catchy beats /It comes so naturally/ So smooth and casually/ That's why they call me king/ Of the music scene" is what this generally good track will have you singing. Song number three is called, "The Drug In Me Is You" The big one, I'm guessing? The song starts off with a strong guitar. It gets old really quickly. The solo in this track sounds like slowed down cat screeches. I tend to skip this song because of how old it gets. The lyrics are okay, nothing special about them. To be frank, this is the most boring song on the CD. Don't get me wrong, it's an okay song, but it gets really old, really fast and isn't as good as the other songs. Maybe 3 or 4 times listening, the sound loses it's appeal.

Number four on this album is, "I'm Not A Vampire". It's an entertaining and well made song. Vincent delivers great guitar work, the guitars lead the song along with the great vocals from Radke. "I'm Not A Vampire" is addictive and actually entertaining to hear. It's easily one of my favorite songs on this album, because of how it doesn't bore, unlike track number three "The Drug In Me Is You". Song number five is "Good Girls Bad Guys" Now this song is once again led by the guitars and Radke's singing. It's a funny song when you read the lyrics. So funny that it's stupid. This song isn't the best in the CD, but it is definitely worth listening to. The solo is actually really nice. One of the best from Falling In Reverse. Track number six is, "Pick Up The Phone". One of the more different songs on the CD. I really enjoy this song. Radke's voice in this track is great. Ficarro delivers a catchy bass tune, and the guitars back it up solidly. He screams about three times in this song and all three sound great, despite the small number. The solo is even better than "Good Girls Bad Guys". One of my favorite songs, without a doubt.

The next track is titled, "Don't Mess With Ouiga Boards", and it is the 2nd heaviest song in the whole album. The lyrics in this song are the darkest also. Usually, I am usually a fan of the heavier songs in an album, but this song doesn't really do it for me. It's growing on me but, I hesitate to listen to it. It just seems too heavy for this band. They barely pull it off. It's an okay song, in all. Track number eight is titled, "Sink Or Swim". This one is my favorite. As soon as it begins, sharp guitar and bass and Radke's great singing take the lead. The screaming is done extremely well and it mixes great with his cleanly executed vocals. The lyrics are written in a way that makes it clear that Radke knows what he's doing. "Do you believe in ghosts? Conducting from the grave? We're nothing but pawns. So move to where they want. 'Cause life is just a game." These lyrics are the best in the album. Sadly there's no solo. Other than that, I love everything about this song. This is Falling In Reverse at it's finest. Song number nine is titled, "Caught Like A Fly". The most unique sounding of this CD. It sounds as if Falling In Reverse recorded it in a circus. The song itself is entertaining. The lyrics are great. The song's lyrics suggest that it's a song of betrayal. "Caught Like A Fly" is Radke's song, to put it simply. You barely notice the guitar and drums until the chorus and towards the end.

Song number ten is called, "Goodbye Graceful", the heaviest song. It starts off with bad screaming. Not a good sign. After that the chorus plays and brings my hope back up. The lyrics are put together well, but still it's boring. I am not a fan of the screaming in this song. It's too heavy for Ronnie Radke and the result of that is him trying to be something he's not. It sounds like he tries to be like Asking Alexandria. Other than that, the music is not half bad, it's quite brilliant but Radke's screaming is a musical "turn off". The eleventh and final track is titled, "The Westerner". This track is exquisite, the music, the lyrics, the singing, everything contributes to making this song a masterpiece. Seaman's drumming in this song is his best in the whole album. This song tells a story, and tells it well. Radke's voice one again shines. The solo in "The Westerner" is top 3 in the CD. A fitting end to this album.

In all, this CD is pretty good for a debut album. This album isn't for everybody, you'd have to be a fan of post-hardcore music to like this band. If you like strong guitar, great vocals, screaming executed well, catchy choruses, and simple but solid drumming then this album is for you. It is worth the money. It'll last for some time as a regular go-to CD. This is definitely gonna be played frequently.

Look, I'm not typically one to jump on the genre argument, but this isn't post-hardcore, at all.

Not nearly enough credibility to say something THAT ridiculous. Nonetheless, bad album is bad.

I'll respect your opinion. Everyone deserves to have one. But, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's bad.

I don't think its bad just because I don't like it, I think its bad because...I mean do I really have to explain? This is your below-average pop arena rock. Listenable at times, maybe, but when I did listen to this I really questioned why I was putting myself through such laughable music.

Yep. The lyrics are also extremely cringe-worthy and it's not worth anyone's money.
