The Out Circuit - Pierce the Empire with a Sound
Release Date: February 12th, 2008
Record Label: Lujo Records

Who?

Former bassist of Frodus Nathan Burke presents us with a project that serpentines through post-rock inspired ambiance, moody electronic consonance, and gritty ol' (sometimes screamy) rock & roll.

How Is It?

The Out Circuit is a band all too many people are missing out on. Granted Pierce the Empire with a Sound has some iffy filler moments, the moments when the album shines more than make up for the falters. And hey, guest appearances by Dustin Kensrue and Sean Ingram of Coalesce ain't that bad of a footnote, either.

Songs like "Come Out Shooting" and "The Fall of Las Vegas" display the harder elements of the band, but applaudingly do not waver from their electronic grounding. And with a song title like "The Fall of Las Vegas", you know there's an agenda being spouted somewhere amongst the throaty screams. Songs like "We" are cleansing contrasts to the latter, wearing melody and atmosphere on their sleeves.

I am really torn over this album. There are a few good songs on it that I really enjoy and then some that I just want to skip over

I really wasn't a huge fan of it after the first listen. I think it is kind of a boring album...

It's mediocre. The song w/ Kensrue is really the only good listen.

I recently interviewed Nathan about The Out Circuit. Check it out here:

I think it's a really great album and is a refreshing change of pace from what I've been hearing lately.
