Our band name comes from the feelings we wanted to express through our music. Deuil in French is the English translation of « Mourning ». Our first release is named « Acceptance/Rebuild ». We have choosen those names for this song that countains two acts because we wanted to express the emotions you could feel during the two last levels of the mourning.
2. How did this band get started?
Nico (guitar) and Romain (drums) played before in the same band but they wanted to do something more experimental and more mature. They decided to start with a friend of them who played the bass guitar. Unfortunately and after a couple of months this guy coudn't continue with them since he was not in the same mood and the same approach to write the music. Nico and Romain continued as a duo for some times and then Renaud joined them for the voice and the samples. They tried this guy only one time and he fit perfectly to the atmosphere they wanted to express. Some months ago Lionel joined the band at his turn to play the bass guitar and the line up seems to be good enough to continue to do something together.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Of course it would be really pretentious to say that we are not influenced by bands we really dig but I think our first influence is our mood and what we want to express. Now it's true we really like drone, doom and sludge bands like Monarch, Earth, Sunn o))) or The Body and some black metal metal bands like Wolves in the Throne Room, Fauna, Ash Borer or Make a Change...Kill Yourself.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
For the present, I think it would definitly be THE BODY because (and even if I've never got the chance to see them playing live) they seem to be a fucking beast when they play together. About a past band I would really love to resurrect Kurt Cobain for a last tour with Nirvana (that's my secret sin).
5. Best food to eat on tour?
Vegan « chicken » nugget from Warsawa in Poland for sure
6. Why should people listen to your band?
I won't give a reason to listen to us. Do it only if you are in the good mood that's all.
7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
No idea, we are not really into sports and stuff ...
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
I think we would thanks us and nobody else because we have done everything by ourselves.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
It's totally stupid and common to say that but I would love to kill all the major label owners to never hear anymore this unpersonal music that you have to hear even if you walk in the street . It would be super nice to hear music (good or bad of course) that comes directly from the heart and not from the wallet.
10 .Memorable tour experience?
We learned that we had a gig cancelled while we were in Hungary and we talked about that with the guys from the local punk band PFA who were playing with us in Budapest.
Then these awesome guys offered us to organize a gig in their hometown ( VeszprÈm). And they did! In 24 hours they managed to bring some bands, their friends and we played in their rehearsal place.
It was really cool and we met a lot of great people. If they are reading this interview : Thanks again guys you rock! And by the way listen to them if you have the chance to. http://pfa.punkportal.hu/
11 .What does AP.net mean to you?
Probably one of the biggest webzine ever in the DIY scene ?
12. What is your favorite song to play?
Actualy it's the 6 first minutes of our second act named Rebuild because we all feel really good and comfy when we play it together.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
If I had the the money to leave on vacation I would definitly say any mountain. I don't care if it's in France, Switzerland, Italy or USA I just want a mountain where I could sit alone to think and get some rest.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
A bunch of Iron Maiden, AC DC and Mötley Crüe releases.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
It would be to be able to stop the time and freeze everybody exept the persons I love but we (me and those people) would still have to able to interact between us and to live as if everything was dead around us.
16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
I would love to say that we pray together in a blood bath but unfortunatly no we don't have superstitions of rituals before we play.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
We don't have that exciting secrets so if someone can speak enough with us it's possible to know everything about us I guess.
18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?
We support independent/local radio because it could be a great way of expression. But on the other hand with songs that lasts more than 20 minutes, I don't think our music is suited for this format.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
As a band we really like to spend time together, we are not this kind of band that just meet to practice or for shows. So yes we often go to shows, to bars or anything together. The coolest thing is since we are really good friends and since we know us for years now we have the same friends and we always can count on someone to move or to talk when something is not going good and stuff.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
People should tell us if we have hidden talents because we really don't know a thing about that.
