In one of the more unique features we've done recently, we teamed up with community member Explode to present one of his favorite artists, Matthew Mayfield, to the website. Explode reviewed his new EP, Irons In The Fire, and his 2011 LP, Now You're Free. With the reviews, Explode also interviewed Mayfield and incorporated his answers into his review. We're bringing you a stream of his new EP, which has a unique blend of modern alternative rock with a southern flair. My best comparison is Switchfoot meets The Fray with this powerful yet sometimes fragile delivery like Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem. Listen to the EP in the replies.
This is great. This artist is the first artist I've ever seen that was opening for a national act, and caught my attention by how good the songs were. I was singing them after the show even though I had heard them once. This was when his band Moses Mayfield opened for Switchfoot in NYC back in 2006. They broke up not long after that, but I signed up for his mailing list and have followed him since. Got to see him play in Louisville late last year. Haunting voice. Check out his Johnny Cash cover of Ring Of Fire.
