Honestly I was never a huge TEN fan except some of their more popular songs, but I thoroughly enjoyed IC though, I've liked a few ICMAMLNB songs over the past 2 albums but overall I was never that impressed... With that being said 'Enola' is one of my favorite releases this year which came as a pleasant surprise. Every track during my first spin had me turning the volume up louder and louder uncertain of what Ace might bring to the table next. I've seen little love for 'Close Enough' but honestly that song had me embarrassingly dancing in my car on my way to work. One comparison I'd like to make is that a lot of the middle tracks reminded me of Mansions - Dig Up Your Dead, not sure why but that's partly why I enjoyed this so much! Nice review!
Yeah, I love this CD. There's not a single song I don't enjoy. All of the electronic stuff took me by surprise, I had only heard "Lions" before I listened to the album in full, and had only heard from others about how much it sounded like Bon Iver. This album really reminds me of if Ace was involved in The Postal Service instead of Ben, especially in songs like "Tidal Wave". 9/10, nearly flawless album IMO.
"Close Enough" is definitely my early favourite, although the vocals seem a little too far back in the mix. It was less noticable with headphones on, but i did notice it today when playing it over my car speakers.
