Raymond Strife - 07.16.13

Interviewed by
Raymond Strife - 07.16.13The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:

Raymond Strife

1. How did you get your band name?

I never admit it because it's pretty nerdy, but Strife is for Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 because I think it's the greatest game ever and Raymond is just my real name.

2. How did this band get started?

Over the years I've been in a bunch of bands, most notably Crack Filler, but they just kept falling apart and I was always rapping too. So, I decided to stop relying on other people and just do my solo shit.

3. What bands are you influenced by?

These days nothing too new really influences me. Danny Brown is the only new rapper I really like. Mostly I just listen to my friends' music and old hardcore and Tom Waits.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Tom Waits because he's my favorite. Danny Brown because I would like to be on a rap tour and Blink-182 because I'm lame and I think it would be a great time.

5. Best food to eat on tour?

Always trying new pizza even though none of it's as good as Jersey. Hard to go wrong with shrimp tacos.

6. Why should people listen to your band?

I think my music's pretty solid and entertaining. I think people should come see me live more than listen to the CDs though, just because it's all around more fun.

7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?

I know nothing of sports. Tiger Woods? He seems to have a good time.

8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?

I don't even imagine such things. Fans I suppose. Satan.

9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?

The way people look at success. And the fact that the mainstream is designed to keep the artist in debt.

10. Memorable tour experience?

I'm always drunk so I don't remember shit. Any cool drugs and any fight I got in that was described to me later.

11. What does AP.net mean to you?

Seems like a good site trying to do helpful things in a flooded market.

12. What is your favorite song to play?

Right now probably En Sabah Nur. It's just super high energy.

13. What is your vacation spot of choice?

Lake Michigan.

14. What music reminds you of your childhood?

Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre.

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?

Healing Factor. So I can party forever.

16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?

Either not caring enough or high anxiety. Either way, drinking.

17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?

I actually don't hate myself as much as it seems from my music, so they should stop busting my balls.

18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?

Just another place to be extorted. It's all about money and that's just backwards if you consider what you do art.

19. What do you like to do in your spare time?

Read comic books. Drink.

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?

I can read a person as soon as they walk in the room and I'm almost never wrong. I'm great at drinking.
