Selena Gomez knocks Jay Z off the top spot as her debut record, Stars Dance, lands at #1 with 96,000 copies sold. Meanwhile, Jay's Magna Carta... Holy Grail falls to #2 with 77,000 sold, and at #3 is the soundtrack to Disney movie, Teen Beach, and that moved 57,000 units. More notable sales can be found below. Album sales in the past chart week totaled 4.68 million units, down 1% compared to last week, and down 4% compared to the comparable week's sales in 2012. Year-to-date sales are currently at 161.2 million, and that's down 6% compared to the total at this point last year (172.1 million).
I feel like it has been impossible to predict first week sales this year... Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy for HLH and Secrets, but I figured they'd both only sell around 4k.
Seriously though, how did Hands outsell LMTF (who are basically on main stage all Warped this summer) or letlive. even.... A band as big as FIR should have sold more than 19k their first week too, no matter how polarizing the single/cd was to their fans. I could go on and on- SWS and Attila over performed, ETF underperformed, and, despite the leak, BMTH should've been able to move more than 35k. I'm just confused is all.
