Okay, that's fair enough, and cliched lyrics aren't always bad. Sometimes they just work

I agree. I personally don't think this is one of those cases though.

...it all makes me feel something - no matter if that feeling's early 20s heartbreak or mid 30s self discovery. That's music, right?

I feel like I'm only person who likes Paradise Valley more so than Born and Raised. Furthermore, I also feel like I'm the only one who likes Wildfire 2 and Who You Love.
Same and same.

Finally got around to giving this a proper spin. He really can't make a bad album.

Another freaking amazing review, Craig.

Thanks man. Need to check out your William Beckett review.

And I'm fairly confident that Mayer will never make a bad album, haha. I've heard people call this, Battle Studies, and Room for Squares weak, but no way I'd consider giving any of them less than an 8.

Who You Love is my favorite track on the album, I'm surprised so many people are labeling it as mediocre and weak.

Probably because of Katy Perry

this is a great review - i'm not so sold on it after a couple listens, i definitely was more into his Continuum days and even liked B&R even though it was a little outside of my comfort zone. He still made it a john mayer album. This seems a little blah for me but i can definitely appreciate the artistry that has gone into this album. I personally think the guy is one of the, if not the best guitar player of our generation. I'll continue to let this album marinate.

Okay, so we're a month or so in and I'm completely sold.

On The Way Home gets me every time, Badge and Gun has a beautiful, lone-wanderer sentiment that I can't get over, Waitin' On The Day is incredible. I see Mayer on 20th October in London - over three years since I last saw him thanks to cancelled UK tours, vocal issues etc - and I bank on it being the best show of my life.

I never understood the criticism of that record. Maybe it's because he'd made Continuum and people loved the bluesy soul of that record, then he departed those shores. But that's precisely what makes Mayer stand out. He'll have a shot, make the genre his own in 11/12 swift tracks, and move on.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to listen, but I love this album.
