As bands like The Story So Far and Man Overboard have risen to the top of the pop-punk totem pole, it's becoming harder and harder for bands to gain traction while presenting a straightforward take on the genre. Currently, Real Friends is proving that you don't have to rewrite the rules to make an impact on young music listeners...but today we have a song stream from a band that I think could follow and exceed that mold. Knuckle Puck delivers a melodic, crunchy offering of a sound that we're all familiar with. It took me a few listens of their new EP, The Weight That You Buried, which drops September 3, to see past the first few layers of their sound. But I think fans of the genre can find something endearing here, not just because the music is familiar, but because Knuckle Puck brings to light a freshness and rawness that can be appreciated on its own merit. You can stream "Stateside" from the EP in the replies and pre-order The Weight That You Buriedin the band's webstore.
