I feel as though my general point of electronic music being more about "living in the moment" still stands strong, especially when you consider the amount of remixes / dance music made mainly for club settings....and the amount of such music that is created with no lyricism at all.

you do not know enough about electronic music/dance music and its culture to make this statement.

This site has generally reviewed albums more positively than most other places for as long as I can remember (I started visiting in '07). Just accept that on here a 50% is basically a big failure, 75%-80% is average and anything higher is good. Don't worry about how the reviews compare to other sites.
wrong. 50% being terrible and 75-80 being average is not the scale i use.

it is, however, pretty indicative of the last five years of the site as a whole – your two dozen reviews aren't exactly a big sway in the averages
I'm just saying not every single reviewer on this site functions in the same exact way

obvious enough without really needing to be pointed out
Only the guy was making sweeping generalizations so I felt like it did need to be pointed out

About accurate - similar to traditional school grading systems.

What scale do you use? Not criticizing - just curious. On MEB, we shunned scores for a long time, just because it was all people talked about.
I was under the impression that we use a 1-10 scale, which is not the same as a percentage scale. I can see the confusion because the percentage is still in place, but nobody uses it like that anymore

Well 1-10 = 1% - 100%. What was an average 75% for me is now a 7.5.

Do you use something different?
That's not how a 1-10 scale works. Have you ever seen a sporting competition that uses a 1-10? Like, in street league skateboarding a 6.8 is not a D trick, it's 1.8 above 5 which is middle of the scale. Doesn't work like a percent.

Yeah, but 1-10 in most music sites is the way I mentioned. 1-10 and 1-5 are very common in music, and both are more towards the scale I'm referring to.

So for you, what would an "average" score be?
well pitchfork is one of the biggest music sites on the Internet and they use it the way I described

5.5-6.5 range is where id place an average album, but average is ambiguous

This album rules. Too much negativity in this thread that isn't related to this review. Thomas doesn't think electronic music's lyrics are as timeless as rock. So what? I would think most people that frequent this site on a daily basis would agree.
which is an ignorant line of thinking because those people probably dont understand or like the genre. which is fine if they prefer rock to electronic music, but making the assertive statement that it isnt as timeless is just completely unnecessary, especially in an album review

predictably, you're picking it apart too much. but that's fine. i do think that my statement is valid. soul and blues and rock and roll have a lengthy history of exploring the themes i wrote about. electronic and dance music have a tendency to be more "of the moment." like i already said quite a few times – it's not an absolute statement. which, apparently, you're taking it very seriously as. again...not unexpected coming from you.
what is any of this supposed to mean? sorry i point out the obvious, that your broad generalization of a genre you have a very narrow understanding of is compeletely off base? are you that upset about it? you knew damn well that statement would get people talking and thats all im doing. if you didnt want this to happen you should've just not said it. simple. but now you're saying OF COURSE YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT!!! yeah, i do, is that a problem?

how typical for a review to get sidetracked by one sentence and a discussion about the score. not sure what the point is to put an album review on this website anymore. same thing every time with the same people.
then dont review anymore.
