Idk I wish it was. Every time I read one of his reviews it's just too much.

But that's just my opinion. All his reviews are so positive, it kinda ruined "Greatest Generation" for me.

Yea I know I'm being a dick.

Edit:same for "handwritten"
I want to backtrack on the word "positive", its really the hyperbole bothers me. BUT, if hes only writing 6-8 reviews a year, why is he getting the "high profile" reviews? i know a lot of people (including myself) that want to hear this record, and these reviews are the ones going into metacritic and the like. so why isint a more experienced reviewer (like yourself) taking the lead on these? i get that hes passionate about what he writes, i wouldn't expect an unpaid contributor to write about crap he dosent want to listen to, but it seems strange that someone who takes only 6-8 reviews a year to write the only staff review about the most anticipated records of the year (including Generation). I get everyone has their biases (i dont think ill ever read a negative ETID review from drew, even if they did a faithful Katy Perry cover album) but some times it feels too much.

i love this site, been my #1 source for years, but when i see you guys in all the major review places, i just wish the reviews were taken more seriously.

EDIT: And how can you call TGG a N/A score? He would that record a 12 if he could of. Its my favorite album this year by far, but come on, i get when he did that with Ocean Avenue, but to do that for TGG is nonsense.
huh?

I like B&C and am in fact listening to Separation as I write this but I do kind of feel this band is being built up a bit too much. They are good at what they do but they're not pioneering a new style, much like Title Fight (another regular on my spotify these days) they are merely introducing 90s alternative styles to a lot of people that could never be bothered to check out early hot water music, sunny day real estate, quicksand and jawbox and jawbreaker.

i remember hearing Only Boundaries and feelling COMPELLED to write a review. That is a meaningless statement for anyone but me, obviously, but even then I had no idea how much these guys could improve.

i saw B&C play a show with someone last year (moving mountains maybe?) and hadn't really kept up with them because who has the time, but hearing them live was a pretty important moment in my musical year. And it was great and the singer sang himself ragged. but even then I had no idea how much these guys would grow.

so this album is fantastic, obviously. It's everything thomas said so wonderfully (really good review), and it does feel important to a certain extent. it makes me wish i was experiencing more of a defining life event right now, so that I could connect this album with not just a specific time, but a specific event. but instead, it will just have to be the week i listened to The Things We Think We're Missing a whole heck of a lot.

once again, this doesn't mean anything but to me, but I am proud of these guys. making music is so hard! and changing by shades of gray is also way harder than rewriting the book. and these guys are still making the same music, except with the added flair of virtuosos. they understand each other incredibly well as a band, and because of this we are treated to a group of dudes thinking as one. and the thought here is: let's do better. and they have.

wrong. 50% being terrible and 75-80 being average is not the scale i use.
it is, however, pretty indicative of the last five years of the site as a whole – your two dozen reviews aren't exactly a big sway in the averages

Yeah i can see where you're going with this and agree with it.

I think "When I Come Undone" should have been a B-side...really my only major gripe with the album. In context it's whatever and as a standalone it's not very worthwhile.
When I Come Undone is one of my favorites off the record. It harks back a lot to Separation I think and serves as a good middle ground for their sound (though it comes staggeringly late in the record).

ALSO: Does anyone else feel that there's a lot more treble in the production of this record? When I play it, I get a lot of cymbals and high guitar tone, but the bass kinda sits in the back (at least when I compare it to Separation).

Do I just need new headphones?

Well, shit. Jon has really stepped up then. That's still the most chilling moment on the album for me.

I'm just saying not every single reviewer on this site functions in the same exact way

Really wasn't a fan of this band's old stuff, and then I heard the new single and instantly changed my mind. I'm looking forward to hearing the entire album and finding out if what I liked was a one-off or not.

If you're 11 years old and have never listened to another band with aggressive vocals before, then sure, Jon totally sounds like Jeremy Bolm at the end of "Notice Me".

Even so, the difference between their respective tones is pretty stark.
This! I guess listening back now with Jeremy in mind I sort of hear it, but I instantly recognized that was Jon on first listen.

Stop your cheerleading Thomas. I really can't trust a single review you write because every album you review is just the most mind blowing thing you have ever listened to. Aside from trashing the Transit record, I really can't trust your opinion anymore. Seriously give an honest review that isn't using pure hyperbole.

Sorry man.
In this case, you can trust him. There is really nothing bad to say about this album. I love critical reviews as well, but it is hard to be critical to something that is basically perfection contained in 13 tracks haha! Read other reviews of this album, they all (at least all the one's I've read) would agree with this.

Is it reflection you heard? If so, you will love this album. Just wait until you hear "Parachutes," "I'm Swimming," and "Back of Your Head," (my personal favorite). I am still shocked at how incredible this album is, and I have NO problem being a total fanboy in this case!

Entire album is amazing. I don't think you'll be disappointed based off the couple singles they released.
