Balance and Composure Debuts at No. 51 on Billboard...

Posted by: Thomas Nassiff (09/18/13)
Balance and Composure debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard 200 chart this week, No. 2 on the vinyl charts (losing the No. 1 spot to Arctic Monkeys), No. 16 on the rock chart and No. 19 on the indie chart. For reference, Hits Daily Double has No. 50 listed as 6,884 sales this week those numbers aren't always accurate, but there's a ballpark for you. Congrats to the band and No Sleep Records!

Good record that I'm sure I'll be spending a lot more time with in preparation for their show with Title Fight (god help Union Transfer). Riot Fest pretty much took me on a journey to the 70s and 80s over the last few weeks, it will be good to jump back into 2013 and this record (along with Touche Amore, Saves the Day, AFI, and some others) should do the trick.

They're not really a band that sells records (a ton of my friends have been playing it nonstop and definitely didn't / won't buy it), so that number is pretty high all things considered.

Awesome news. I'm sure that enormous first pressing helped numbers quite a bit.

You're probably right.

It's funny, it's almost like selling posters / artwork and counting them as album sales.

...how so? Not only is vinyl a tangible medium (if CDs count as legitimate sales and aren't considered coasters for coffee mugs, why would you target vinyl as just artwork?), but it also comes with a digital download. I personally think a digital DL + LP should count as two sales.

This is the news I came on AP.net to find out. Thanks Thomas.

Yeah, I was going to say - we know they did at least 5k in vinyl pre-orders. I assume it's pretty rare for a band to chart off mostly vinyl sales?

Actually, the number that Hot Topic carried shouldn't be counted. You also have to consider that just because, say, 1,000 of a variant is made, doesn't mean they actually sold 1,000 before marking it as sold out. Also we have no idea what happened with their tour variant / those sales. But it definitely seems to be in that ballpark.
