on Nov 18 2003, i was a senior in high school and got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out that morning. all drugged up, i laid on the living couch at my mom's house. my mom knew that the new Blink album came out that day so she went out and picked it up for me. when she brought it back home, i popped it into my portable CD player and sat back and listened to it all the way through for the first time. i wasn't able to talk because my mouth was full of gauze, but i was completely speechless. it was completely unexpected, but it was totally what i wanted to hear from them. it encapsulated everything that i already loved about Blink, but it was also aggressive and experimental enough to cater to my growing musical taste around that time.
i also remember when i first heard the chorus to "I Miss You" i immediately tried thinking of ways i could rip-off the vocal melody, haha.
needless to say, this album is my favorite Blink album.
Not to be overdramatic, but this album completely changed the way I thought about music as a kid. Prior to this album, I was so sure that if music wasn't short, fast and loud, then it wasn't worth listening to. Oh, how wrong I was. Thanks Blink!
My best friend at the time took us to the record store in the mall (now closed, of course) to pick up two copies after school. He drove a super old blue truck. We weren't able to actually listen to it until we got back to his dad's house, but we had been listening to a leaked copy for about 3 weeks. I wish I could find the leaked version again; it had different versions of "Violence," "Down," and the original "Action." One of my favorite albums of all time, and is indisputably the band's best work.
