Modern Baseball Cracks Billboard Top 100 with 'You're Gonna Miss It...

Posted by - 09:17 AM on 02/19/14
Modern Baseball hit the No. 84 spot on this week's Billboard 200, moving 4,473 units in first-week sales of You're Gonna Miss It All. In case anyone is keeping track, they charted one spot above Daughtry and only five spots behind Nickelback. They also topped the vinyl sales chart. Congrats to the band, their management and Run For Cover Records!

Crazy how a couple thousand gets you in the top 100 these days. I wonder how long until Billboard is just irrelevant and selling physical copies is just not really done.

I can see a lot of bands just not selling CDs in the future, but not selling all physical formats doesn't seem likely.

I'm nitpicking, but this wasn't a "couple thousand" - the difference between 2000 and what they did (over 4,400) is a huge difference on the charts. And while record sales are down, they're down for everyone (not just punk bands or mainstream acts alone).

The advantage that indie bands have right now is that they ARE seeing a lot of physical sales. That's the market they appeal to. I'd bet that more than a quarter of MoBo sales were LPs.

I feel like it could definitely shift to be a minor thing tho not completely falling out of existence. Like bands would do an album release and it'd just be on their website or whatever, and then you could buy a physical copy from them on tour but that really wouldn't be the focus. I'd love if album art was just sold as is and came with codes to download the music. So the artwork would be the physical aspect and the album would be all digital.
