Crazy how a couple thousand gets you in the top 100 these days. I wonder how long until Billboard is just irrelevant and selling physical copies is just not really done.
I'm nitpicking, but this wasn't a "couple thousand" - the difference between 2000 and what they did (over 4,400) is a huge difference on the charts. And while record sales are down, they're down for everyone (not just punk bands or mainstream acts alone).
The advantage that indie bands have right now is that they ARE seeing a lot of physical sales. That's the market they appeal to. I'd bet that more than a quarter of MoBo sales were LPs.
