I'm listening to this album now, and totally falling in love with it. I get a Mumford vibe from his voice at times -- thiss is blowing me away.
I found Suicide Handbook, by the way. Got any other rarity Ryan Adams I should be on the lookout for?
Glad you like it. Yeah, there's definitely a Mumford sound in his voice at times.

What do you have of Adams? There's a lot of unreleased stuff. The other essential is 48 Hours, but there are a few other "lost" albums or demo/b-side collections that are worth tracking down too. I'll make a list tomorrow.

"Cigarettes" makes me want to start smoking cigarettes just to quit cigarettes and better relate to the song.

I have all of his officially released stuff, plus suicide handbook.

Also, First Defeat reminds me a lot of Nine Crimes by Damien Rice.

Let me know what you think. And thanks, there were so many lyrics that I wanted to quote here that it was hard to just pick a few.

I just got to go on a solo trip to Denver this past weekend (to the TWY's tour - YES), and that meant I listened to this album a bunch on the plane and walking around downtown Denver. Cigarettes is basically the perfect snapshot into my life right now. I admire Noah's way of writing songs that sound beautiful but take on a much deeper meaning when you pay attention to what he is actually singing.

i started smoking them again because of this song, haha.

On a serious note, this album is phenomenal. I saw hime live in Philly a few weeks ago and him and the band were incredible. it was one of the best-sounding show i've ever heard in my life. Super down to earth dude. i had the privilege of buying him a beer about a year ago and he was just s upper down-to-earth dude.
