Yeah, this is pretty wild to me too. The band is interesting - they've done a ton of co-write with prominent "scene" bands because they are personally huge fans of "scene" bands, but have a One Direction fan base.

theyre basically the "pop-punk" one direction. they sound exactly like a watered-down so wrong it's right-era all time low. and i love it. but it blows my mind that its selling so much

I think you're thinking of All time low not BLG. I don't know that much about this band but I follow Alex from ATL on twitter and he's posted pictures of him with the band in the studio.

EDIT: I guess they did with both.
