Represses of old stuff, vinyl version of Interstate 8 and new album are coming
Sorry I didn't write anything up sooner, I've been pretty busy the past week:
I met Wil Slater first, who was very nice and talked to us about how he got to play with Modest Mouse. Jeremiah walked by a little bit later, and two guys had a conversation with him about up-and-coming bands. I asked him to sign some of my stuff, which he was fine with. When I handed him Tube-Fruit, he was very surprised and asked me how I got it. I told him how, and he then spoke about how each of them (meaning him, Isaac and Eric) each have a tape or two, although I don't remember which one he said he had. Someone asked him about the new album, and he jokingly called it a cover album like Aerosmith did, but then added that they do have an album coming out soon. I thanked him for signing my stuff and playing a killer show, and he went to talk to other people.
Tiger Merritt of Morning Teleportation came by with the merch people around the same time, and we started talking about the show. He asked about the tape I had, so we talked about that as well. The lighting crew also showed up and had me take their picture, and gave us all free Morning Teleportation beer koozies!
Just as I was about to get kicked out by security, Isaac showed up and apologized for making us wait. We started talking about a bunch of different stuff, ranging from his really old material (the tapes specifically) to their new album. He confirmed a new album would be out, although he didn't give a date. He also confirmed everything old would be repressed, including a vinyl edition of Interstate 8! We also spoke about my collection while he was signing things, he seemed pretty excited when he was looking through the singles I handed him first, especially with Magic Eye Singles #4. He told me that when he was first making the tapes, he got them from dumpster-diving near music stores, and that at one point he had thousands piled up in his house.
In total, we talked for probably 20-30 minutes, although I was starstruck the entire time, so I didn't really keep track of how long it went on for. It was by far the greatest night of my life. Isaac and Jeremiah, along with the rest of the crew, were extremely humble and very easy to talk to. I saw them play in Cooperstown both days afterwards, and the sets were just as amazing as the one in Bethlehem. If you ever get a chance to see Modest Mouse live, I'd recommend it 100%.
if i can get the lonesome crowded west, this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, building nothing out of something, and a new album on vinyl at some point this year, 2014 will be my favorite year. i'd ask for sharpen your teeth, but that's probably too much haha.
