Metal Trio Lands $1.7m Contract; Not Bad For 8th Graders

Posted by - 01:31 PM on 07/14/14
New York heavy metal band, Unlocking the Truth, have signed a deal with Sony Records worth potentially $1.7 million. Best part? The members are in eighth grade.
Sacks says the boys have a chance of becoming the new face of rock because they are unique — black artists excelling in heavy metal, a genre typically dominated by white musicians. The seven-figure Sony contract was submitted for a Manhattan judge’s approval Friday because the musicians are minors.

Cool story, they're "only" gonna get $60,000 but they gotta be the coolest kids entering high school and that's still a ton of money.

Hard to believe they'll see all of that money, but good for them nonetheless.

I've already seen some really racist comments towards these guys. Hopefully everyone keeps that shit out of this thread.

These kids went viral a while back, so it was only a matter of time. Awesome for them.

They'll probably skip all that and get drafted right into the majors

the parents? man I would be pissed if my parents decided what to do with my future when I'm about to get a million dollar contract.

Just because you sign a contract, that doesn't mean you're capable of making rational adult decisions.

Does anyone else think this is one of many reasons why record labels are failing to make money? They put their money in kids who probably won't be worth anything musically.

it doesn't mean that the parents have what's best for the kids either. sometimes life is about risk, sometimes you have to take that risk. it's their life in the end.
