Lorde is nominated for best rock video? Sigh. She's fantastic, but she's not "rock"

Since when is Lorde a rock musician? Always thought of her as pop to be honest.

To be honest, that was the popular music at the time. Nothing has really changed, it's always the popular stuff that gets nominated for those "awards". Now, you could argue about the musical quality and merits between the two groups of nominees but still, nothing has really changed.

Whack. Not surprising, though. I've never really cared about the VMAs.

oh yeah, im mostly just making a case about how awesome POPULAR music was in 1996. I mean, Smashing Pumpkins and Alanis Morisette was the hot tracks. Amazing stuff.

I have been a faithful vma watcher since I was a kid, even if sometimes the nominees are flops. This train wreck of an awards show is just too near and dear to my heart

yeah I feel like it's always been as much or more about the speeches and performances than the actual awards
