Chris:
The Stooges-Raw Power: In my opinion, this is THE quintessential punk rock record by THE quintessential punk rock band. Iggy Pop's lyrics are brilliant and he sings with a bad ass snarl that almost strangles you with it's ferocity. These songs jump out of the speakers and bang your head against the wall.
The Damned-Damned, Damned, Damned: Yet another must have punk rock record. In my opinion, before listening to the watered-down punk rock music of today, you ought to check out the Damned and the Stooges. The song writing is unmatched. Beautiful and insightful lyrics. The Damned is the real thing, not the fashion savy Sex Pistols. These guys are lunatics.
Howlin' Wolf-Howlin' Wolf/Moanin' in the Moonlight: This CD of two Howlin' Wolf records should be in every rock & roll fan's collection. These tunes are the grandparents of rock & roll. The songs are infectious. If this music doesn't make your feet tap, there's something wrong with you.
Curtis Mayfield-Curtis: The song "Move On Up" alone is worth the price of this record. Hear the insanity in Mayfield's rhythms and melodic grooves. The bass lines are brilliant and the melodies are beautiful. This album was important in pushing pop music to it's limits in both structure and social awareness.
The Bad Brains-Banned in D.C.: If you want to hear true insanity on record, here's the album for you. Unbelievable songs and unparalleled aggression. The singing is abosultely possessed. Hear them flailing in punk rock purgatory and then turn on a dime into reggae ritual. This is schizophrenia at it's best.
