I've never got into Mos Def. From what I've heard, Drunk and Hot Girls isn't an indication.
i first heard the new danger (which i cant stand) and then i heard black star. recently i bought black on both sides, amazing. if you are going to relisten to him checkout black on both sides, then black star

I've never got into Mos Def. From what I've heard others say, Drunk and Hot Girls isn't exactly an indication.

Start with Blackstar. If you don't like this, you won't dig him. Hopefully, you will love it and get into Talib Kweli just as much as Mos. From there, Black on Both Sides is a perfect transition, and if you want to hear Mos changing up his style a bit and taking a bit of a risk, listen to New Danger (which is awesome btw). Funny how this was exactly the order in which these albums came out. All 3 are sick. Enjoy.

I thought Black Star was shit and I love Mos Def's first two albums. Tru3 Magic was aletdown though.

The only Talib Kweli albums worth owning are Quality and Reflection Eternal in my opinion

I like Tru3 Magic. '

'Def on the speak, epic on the beat'.

Hopefully The Ecstatic will be better, though.

It's not that Tru3 Magic was terrible, it was that it felt like a lazy release. Half that album could've been scrapped.

Yeah, towards the end, it's pretty weak. I almost like 'Eardrum' better than True Magic, and I was disappointed by that release as well.

Man you didn't like Blackstar huh? That pretty much set everything up for me. I got into Mos and Talib because of it, as i'm sure many did. Tru3 magic was certainly a bit of a letdown, but i love Mos' other work so much it doesn't hinder my opinion of him as an artist too much. As far as Talib goes, I think Quality and RE are great, Beautiful Struggle is mediocre, and Eardrum is a good, solid record.

Underground rappers are da stuff. Ohmega Watts, Mr J Medeiros and Braille are pretty good, too. As is Theroy Hazit.
