How Is It?
Sakes Alive!! debut statement Presents was an impressive opening statement from a relatively new band. The EP was three stripped down yet furious punk rock anthems that brought the band and almost instant and steady stream of fans. As promising as the band’s debut effort was, there is no denying that the songs seemed to lack something. I think that the production, even though the rough style of which suited the band, held the songs back a little bit. However, on Act I, that problem has completely evaporated. Although the band still sticks to its DIY approach to recording, the production is greatly improved here and help the band’s sound become fuller.Act I finds the band slightly tampering with their style, however it is still the fast and in your face punk rock you have come to know and love from Sakes Alive!!. Vandeviver’s gruff vocals are deeper and more commanding on Act I and helps add a bit of bite to Sakes Alive!!’s overall sound. Gnarled guitars, breakneck tempos, and impassioned lyrics are still the cornerstones of Sakes Alive!!, but their sound has evolved into a whole other beast on Act I. Sakes Alive!! are constantly improving their sound, as demonstrated by the growth made in the relatively short time between Presents and Act I, and they definitely have me eagerly awaiting Act II in their series of releases.
