Unwritten Law - 12.12.04

Interviewed by
Unwritten Law - 12.12.04First off, introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band/

Steve Morris, Guitar

So, your new album “Here’s To The Mourning” comes out in February. Is there any meaning behind the title?

We have been through hell and back in the last couple of years, so this album is a celebration of still being a band and not having killed each other (literally). So it is our cheers to the world. So here’s to the mourning.

Its been a few years since Unwritten Law has released an album, what have you guys been up to?

Writing a record, recording a record, getting a new drummer, getting divorced, getting married , having kid’s. I am speaking of the entire band of course.

Do you feel the band’s sound has changed or matured since the last record?

Shit yeah, and it always will, don’t want to make the same record twice, now do I?

What albums were you guys listening to while recording this album?

Grinspoon, Mozart, Quicksand, Slayer, Neil Young, stuff like that

I see you guys hooked up with Linda Perry (ex Four None Blondes) How did you get hooked up with working with her, and how was the experience?

Great experience, some times its nice to get a fresh ear when you are stuck on something.

I see that Wade left the band and Tony has taken his place, is Tony permanent now?

Yes.

How has it been with him in the band so far?

Awesome, he truly brought a breathe of fresh air and a new style with him. Couldn’t have picked up anyone better.

How is it that Unwritten Law has gotten the rare opportunity to work with three major record labels in three album releases?

Not sure if it is pure dumb luck or we are just good at what we do. Probably both

After ‘Save Me,’ have you guys decided on what the next single is going to be?

Yes, most likely She Says, but then again Save Me wasn’t supposed to be the single so who fucking knows.

How was the experience with “Music In High Places”?

Cool, got hang with Native American’s. Get drunk with the locals, almost get run over by 60 Bulls and 70 horse’s. All in all I would say it was a good experience.

Since the album comes out in a few short months, are there any big plans tour wise for Unwritten Law?

Ya, tour.

I hate when bands give one sentence answers. It almost makes it look like they dont want to do the interview they just feel obligated by their label or promotion company.

You may not have liked the interview, but I know Steve and he's really a good guy.....just extremely private, so maybe he's not the one that should have been interviewed. I know all the band and they are awesome!
