I will interviewing one of my musical heroes, Joey Cape (Lagwagon), this week. He is preparing to release his first full-length solo effort, Bridge, on Suburban Home Records. You know the deal - questions in the replies!
I'm really excited for this but so nervous. I want to make sure I have some solid questions for him and not sound like a jackass haha
In my opinion, sounding like a jackass is better than sounding like a total fanboy, haha. All I've got question-wise is stuff about Derrick and some stuff about wanting to see him play here, and then wanting to see them play here. Never seen 'em on home turf, I had to go to Denmark and I only got to see 30 minutes 'cause Deftones were playing on the other stage and...well...
Awesome! He's also one of my musical heroes. Maybe you could ask him these questions?
Lagwagon recently finished a tour that ended in Eastern Canada. Will they possibly be coming back to Halifax? (No one ever comes here, I was so smitten when I heard they were coming, it was unbelievable)
Are there any plans for a new full length from Lagwagon in 2009?
Is his solo record going to be mostly just acoustic or is there going to be a lot of instruments? (I would be upset if there was a large absence of drums.)
ask him how he still maintains that punk rock image in today's scene. especially after bands like good riddance breaking up because of that same reason. also, ask him if he still needs a smoke. hahaha.
Joey is definitely my biggest influence in songwriting, so I have a few questions.
1.) Which songs came first, the acoustic songs or the songs for the Lagwagon album and what inspired him to share songs on both of the new releases? It is pretty interesting seeing both versions of them.
2.) What lyrically influenced the new acoustic album, and what is the overall tone of the record as far as a message?
3.) Are there any special vinyl plans for "Bridge" through Suburban Home?
4.) How was playing with Chris Shifflett on guitar in Canada?
5.) What was touring with MxPx and Only Crime like? Although slightly similar both are bands people wouldn't expect to be on tour together.
6.) What happened to his side projects like Afterburner and Angry Penguin (I think it was? I'm horrible with names) and were any of the songs used for the new album? I think "canoe" is on the album which is one of my favorite songs Joey has ever written.
7.) Does Joey plan on releasing more solo stuff from now on, or just treating this is a sideproject? And can he go on a full U.S. tour with Drag The River to make my dreams come true?
OK, that should wrap it up haha. Talking with him would rule.
