1. How did you get your band name?
The Pink Panther Strikes Again, 1976
2. How did this band get started?
High school was boring, we knew how to play instruments, a "band" inevitably formed.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Waltham.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
Brian Wilson, Kanye West, Slipknot, New Found Glory. Variety, fun, talent.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
Gorilla. Call me Kong when we furry baby.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
I wear men's clothes and have a normal haircut. I write better music than everyone else and do not have a boner for Jesse Lacy.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
Stare. It would not be hard for people who memorize patterns, hit 3 buttons in sequence and can count 1, 2, 3, 4.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
I would thank myself because I am awesome and god didn't do shit when I was laying down tracks. Big Sexy and Mike get props as well.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Make a band's image irrelevant and create a minor league farm system where musicians are forced to learn how to play instruments in a live setting. When they're ready, they get called up.
10. Memorable tour experience?
Going to Blue Colony after gigs
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
Not much. It's a website. It's great for news and seeing how out of touch I am but I never go on the boards or participate in threads.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
Anything I've just written.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
NH
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
The ability to see the future so I can know whether the Celtics are going to choke in the playoffs
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Yes. We can do whatever we want, don't have to rely on the band for income and have no false hopes about the future.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I can have a real conversation about music without acting immature or elitist.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving cause I hold it down in the kitchen.

Home improvement projects, play with my dog, go to Market Basket, fishing

12:35 PM on 01/07/09 | I'm Not Holden Caulfield
www.myspace.com/imnotholdencaulfield
1. How did you get your band name?
Originally, I'm Not Holden Caulfield was just a song, until a friend of mine suggested it could be a good name too. It's based on all these bands that take that self-righteous attitude of Holden Caulfield from Catcher In The Rye and proclaim everyone else to be phony except for them when all the while, like Caulfield in the book, they are exactly the same way. The name of the band dares to reject all that by saying "I'm not gonna say that I'm different and everything else is phony because that would make me like everyone else". It's also a self-deprecating name, because if you listen to it, I DO sound like everyone else, or rather my songs all sound the same.
2. How did this band get started?
INHC was supposed to be an outlet for my non-political songs, and it was supposed to be a full band. I had another acoustic project called The Martyr's Sympathy which was all acoustic political folk punk (ala Against Me!). Over time, I started shying away from mostly political stuff and I was really proud of the INHC stuff so I decided to make that my full time project and make it solely acoustic. TMS just got absorbed into that because some of the songs written for that became part of the repertoire.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
I have like a million influences musically, but as far as this band goes, probably the obvious ones are Against Me!, Andrew Jackson Jihad, City And Colour, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, Brand New, Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution, Bright Eyes, State Radio, among other things. My greatest musical influences of all time are Tomas Kalnoky (Streetlight Manifesto and BOTAR), Jack Terricloth (The World/Inferno Friendship Society, of which one of the songs I named after him), and Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys).
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think it'd be really fun to tour with Streetlight Manifesto and World/Inferno, even though our sounds are different. Maybe Brand New, since I've played a couple Brand New songs and I'd love to be able to sing with Jesse Lacey on the same stage. As for past bands, I'd love to open for a show for The Beatles, just so when they take the stage it makes them even better sounding then the crappy band that opened up for them.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
Probably a Ferret. Most people would tell you it's because I stink, but I'd wanna one because it's easy to slip outta people's hands.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
People should listen to INHC if they wanna hear music that's raw at the source. The shit's done completely DIY on a computer with the Rock Band USB mic. There's no super-awesome budget (Take that Axl!), there's no great producer at the helm and there's no desire for fame or fortune. It's just music, and I think alot of bands have lost that kind of sense to themselves.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
Well considering it's all acoustic, it'd be kind of a waste of time, but I'd probably say "Kira", just because it's a fast song to play and the vocals get pretty tough to keep up with at the end, even for me.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
I'd be flattered, but I'd probably give it away to one of the other nominees who were more deserving of it. Really, no lie. I'm really sick of that shit. When I got into music and found out that Jethro Tull had beaten out Metallica for best metal performance, even though I found out about it years later, I thought "who gets to decide this shit and how is it decided?". So I'd probably give it away, or just got up, shrug, and then leave it on stage and walk out.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Hey, here's something: How about record labels start giving a shit about the artist and not the money? I'd dissolve the RIAA, who I am a strict opponent of. I understand their argument against P2P downloads, but it's not right to target individual downloaders like that. I give all my music away for free and leave people the option of paying for it or not (Yes...like Radiohead). I think the RIAA is a monster looming toward extinction, and as NOFX put it "Dinosaurs will die".
10. Memorable tour experience?
Um, I opened up for a local band starting to get big in Miami called And Then There Was You. It was at a Hot Topic and even though I got to play 4 songs, it was the first time I was playing to the audience that I wanted to play for, rather than a bunch of old people at an open mic night. I also went back to my old High School and played a show for a friend of mine who set one up. I was the only returning student and I called out the principal on stage and openly criticized her. I was a hit with the students, not so much the parents and the administration, but I had a blast.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
It's a pretty sweet forum and an excellent news source for music. Tate really hit it on the head when he made it. I'm addicted to the Polls and the "What Albums Did You Listen To Today" thread, of which I post at the end of each day.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
I open up every show with Jack Terricloth, which is a criticism of the music industry, so that's a favorite. I also close with Leaving Here, pt. I, because it's appropriate and people can sing along to it. My absolute favorite song to play live is probably Kira, which is funny since it's a b-side, but it's the only time when I can insult the audience and they don't know it.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
I love Disney World. I've been going there every year since I was a little kid. I also love to ski, I've been to Colorado and Vermont twice each. I'd probably wanna go to Vermont for the snow again, I really miss it.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
Mostly the pop-punk that was circulating around 2002-2003 when I was in 8th grade. Good Charlotte's "Young And The Hopeless" was big with me, even though it went downhill after that. A friend of mine showed me Metallica when I was 12 years old, ...And Justice For All is still my favorite album because it opened the door to all sorts of things. There's some music that I didn't listen to that the sound just reminds me of when I was little. Eisley is one of them (their first record, Room Noises) and Radical Face. Their album, Ghost, puts me to sleep, in a good way.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
I saw this flash cartoon called Tomorrow's Nobodies, and one of the characters received the power of The Cum Touch, which is the ability to give an orgasm to whatever he touches. I was like "I want that!". So yeah, the Cum Touch. Either that or to fly, which is always cool.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Am I doing what I wanna do? Hell yeah. Is there more that I can do that I wanna do? Hell yeah. But really, I don't feel I've truly made it until I'm approached by a major, RIAA label to sign, and then I have the opportunity to do what I've always wanted to do: tell them to fuck off.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I'm a pretty open person, so there's not much somebody can't find out about me just by asking me. I guess this could count: I have, as of right now, 251 different shirts. I wrote them all down in a notebook and I have a cycle in which I wear them in, usually corresponding to whenever I'm in school. I also have a seperate shirt cycle for work. More often than not, you will see in a different shirt everyday, not ever repeating until you've long forgotten that I've worn that shirt before.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
My birthday. Yes, it's a holiday. I would say Christmas, just because of the season (and the gifts, who am I kidding?), but winter in Miami, FL is a fucking joke.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Write, play, and listen to music, watch movies and TV, play video games, spend time with my girlfriend, and read. I read alot. Oh, and masturbate.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I have a vast knowledge of all things music, past and present, so much so that my friends usually refer to me when they don't know about something.

02:23 PM on 01/07/09 | what does each band member contribute to writing a song/album?/how do you go about writing a song?
|
02:31 PM on 01/07/09 | Band: The Jim Ivins Band ( myspace.com/thejimivinsband)
Hometown: Richmond, VA
1. How did you get your band name? In my old band, we spent weeks thinking of a band name and then when we tried to change our name, it took weeks again and we narrowed it down to four absolutely terrible names, none of which we ended up using. So this time, since I write all the musical and lyric parts, I decided to bypass the entire process and call us The Jim Ivins Band.
2. How did this band get started? All of us had played in other bands and were best friends so when I wrote the songs and wanted to have a band play them live, I decided to assemble my dream team of musicians and pick and choose my favorite people.
3. What bands are you influenced by? My biggest songwriting influence of all is Ace Enders. I have been the biggest Early November fan for years, since I saw them on the Take Action Tour with Sugarcult. I love how Ace is so honest in his lyrics and I am also in love with his new stuff. That's not to say that we sound like The Early November or Ace Enders and a Million Different People, because I don't think we do really, but the way Ace writes and his honesty and how his lyrics are easy to relate to is a major influence on me. When we got the chance to work with him and have him produce our EP, it was a dream come true. The way I'm writing now is taking the band in a more acoustic driven rock direction, so my influences musically for that definitely include Graham Colton (I would say we sound the most like him), Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and the Goo Goo Dolls. My other huge influences are definitely Mae, Relient K, Third Eye Blind, and I will always be influenced in one way or another by Oasis because they're my all time favorite band.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why? The stock answer to this would be Blink-182. They mean so much to me and I know the entire AP.net community because they made pop punk what it is and inspired too many bands to count. The way they wrote songs, melodies and harmonies especially, and the way they carried themselves, truly made them one of a kind. However, since we don't really sound like Blink I won't say that. I would say that my dream list of artists to tour with includes Oasis, The Early November, Graham Colton, Jason Mraz, Dashboard Confessional, Brand New, Relient K, Mae, and The Goo Goo Dolls. I choose this list mostly because of what their songs mean to me. Lyrics and credibility as a songwriter are the most important thing to me and I think these artists are the absolute best at that in my mind. They all write songs where people, definitely myself included, go "wow that's exactly how I'm feeling (or how I've felt)" and I've always wanted to be able to write songs that do that to people and help people. I have always wanted to write music that makes people feel good and to also know that they're not alone.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal? A fat bunny. They're the cutest. Chicks like cute fat animals. Giggity.
6. Why should people listen to your band? Our music is real upbeat and makes you feel good. Its about real stuff and emotions and not just like "I was a loser in high school but now I'm in a band so I'm cool and we're goin' to the party on friday night cause we're in high school". I can't think really think of any other good reasons. I'm biased so I think our music is really good.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert? Our songs aren't really Guitar Hero sounding songs but I guess "The Chance" cause of the different riffs it has or "2 O'Clock Wake Up Call" because its based in a cool bass riff (Both songs are on our new EP "Back To Reality" which is on iTunes and myspace). They probably wouldn't be terribly hard especially relative to something like DragonForce.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank? All of our friends and families and anyone who had ever listened to us and got us to that point.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be? Labels aren't into artist development anymore. The fact that there are so many bands now probably contributes to this. Back in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and even 90's, if you had some great songs, you could get a deal and the label would take you under their wing and really develop you and help you grow your following. Now, having great songs is only a small part of it. Myspace definitely has helped bands but at the same time it also can hurt you. Like I said earlier, there SO many bands. So now when labels look at myspace, you could have the greatest songs ever written in the history of mankind but if you don't have like millions of myspace friends, they don't care about you. But then you can have some formulaic, cookie-cutter band that sounds like every band ever and they've got those friends, the label is like "let's capitalize on this and get one catchy song out of these guys then move on to the next ones". And a lot of people say major labels are the worst so stay away from them, and to an extent that's true, but where they have you trapped is that a lot of people don't realize that the majors still carry a lot of weight. They control all the distribution, they get your songs on MTV and Fuse and specifically radio (something the indies can't do), and they have the marketing power to get you known. If the stars allign and the timing is right on everything, a major can still make you the biggest band in the world, but they just need to care a little more about the artists.
10. Memorable tour experience? Our first tour last summer was plagued by promoters having absolutely no idea what they were doing, so I would say some of this is memorable because it was so sucky. We are from Richmond, VA and have never played out of state so you would think a promoter would take that into account, but no. We pull into Ithaca, NY to play The Haunt which is a pretty big place, bigger than I thought, and we find that there are not only only two bands on the bill, but the other band is from Brooklyn, NY so they're not exactly popular in Ithaca. The promoter had booked no locals. Not a single person showed up. The next night we played in New York City at Arlene's Grocery. I instantly like the venue cause its like the perfecrt size. The only problem is that the promoter has put us LAST. Locals before us. So the first band plays and its at capacity so we're thinking this might not be so bad. Then the second band plays and its still pretty full but not as much. The third act plays and there's less than half the people there by the time she starts and by the time she was done, everyone had left, and we played for our five friends that we knew in New York.
A funny tour experience though is that we had played Philly the night before and had the day off and were going to see John Mayer that night in Camden, NJ. We were staying at a friends house about an hour away in Jersey and on our way back from the show we got lost, and found that New Jersey is not very creative when coming up with names for roads. A sign on the highway was the exit for "Street Road". The kicker though, is that once we got our GPS working, it said "take a right on New Road Road". We thought it was a glitch but sure enough, we pulled up and saw that in fact there was a New Road Road. We laughed for like an hour.
11. What does AP.net mean to you? AP.net means a lot because its constantly updated news about bands and artists that I care about. Its news access that you can't get on MTV or Fuse or radio and because there are so many bands out there its amazing that every move they make is covered on AP. I obsessively check it throughout the day.
12. What is your favorite song to play? "Run". We usually open with it and it instantly grabs your attention (at least that's what people have told me). The chorus is great and kicks in real nice and its catchy and upbeat and I love the lyrics.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice? New York and London are my favorite cities in the world. I absolutely love the culture of both cities. Miami is pretty balla though. I am however a sucker for Disney World, as I have been six times.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood? I got into music and rock radio at a very young age so childhood for me is grunge, its Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Nirvana. Childhood is also of course Blink-182, because I wouldn't have ever gotten into pop punk music and that whole scene without Blink.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why? Mind control. I see a girl who I find attractive and then all of a sudden she walks up to me and says "I don't know you, and your name is unimportant, but I feel the sudden urge to have sex with you. Are you interested?". I would also like to make little things move like what Jim did to Dwight on The Office.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"? Not in the least. We're still building our following but we've only been together for a year and have all ready opened for Mae, The Ataris, Carolina Liar, Sparky's Flaw, gone on tour, and had Ace Enders produce our EP. Hopefully we'll get a deal soon and conquer the world. One can only dream.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you? I gave up guitar for one year to play saxophone. I was the worst saxophone player of all time haha.
18. What's your favorite holiday? Christmas. How could it not be?
19. What do you like to do in your spare time? Music. Reading band interviews and news online. Wikipedia-ing bands and finding out facts about them. Going to Sea World and taking my pants off.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have? Don't think I have any. My talents are unhidden.

03:02 PM on 01/07/09 | The OK Corral
www.myspace.com/theokcorralmusic
answered by: Brett Nickley (vox/guitar)
- How did you get your band name?
Mike Matthews and I had just finished our first demo in our basement and wanted to get a Myspace up so we could show our friends. We didn’t have a band name, or song title, so we were looking everywhere for inspiration, and landed upon a deck of Trivial Pursuit cards. We were going through all the answers and finally found The OK Corral. The name stuck as a band name, and we named the song, “The Trivial Pursuit.”
2. How did this band get started?
Mike M. and I started summer 2007, with the intention of being an acoustic duo. We recorded a five song EP in my basement, played a handful of shows, and eventually decided that we wanted to expand. After a few lineup changes, our band solidified this past summer, with Mike Burbrink on drums, and my brother Scott on keys, and backing vocals.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
To name a few (since there are so many): Brand New, Bright Eyes, Manchester Orchestra, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Format, Saves the Day, Thrice, Say Anything, The Hold Steady, Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab for Cutie, Radiohead, Weezer, Straylight Run, The Get Up Kids, Cursive, Rilo Kiley, The Arcade Fire, and all the bands from our area that we’ve seen grow in the past few years.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
This is an awesome question…it’s gonna be a big tour:
Manchester Orchestra: Our band’s favorite band…and they’re really cool dudes.
Blink 182: Our tour would complete the Urethra Chronicle trilogy.
The Gay Blades: I don’t think people know what to make of these guys…we think they’re hilarious, and play awesome music.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: These guys are timeless.
Jay-Z: The best rapper alive.
Radiohead: What live music should sound like.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
Scott and I have a pet bunny named Sammy, so I guess we’d all wanna be bunnies so we could hang out with Sammy.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
I think there’s a ton of good music out there right now, and there’s a ton of bad music. We’ve tried our best to write songs that are interesting, musically and lyrically, in order to compete with some of the best bands out there.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
We’d want this new song “BTF.” It’s a fast, driving song, that’s hard to sing, got killer guitar riffs from Mike M., and always has Mike B. holding his arm after we play it. I think it would be introduced in the second half of the game, and it would be pretty hard on expert.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Mom and Dad for letting us practice and record in our basement at crazy hours. David Silberstein who booked shows for us, and played bass for us. And anyone who came to our shows, bought our stuff, or listened to our music.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
I feel like we’ve turned to a much more singles-based music generation than an album-based one. To me, the album is something that defines a band, rather than if they have a song or two on the radio. So I guess I would like to see albums make a comeback. I wish CD’s were a few bucks cheaper, too, because I love collecting them, but it just adds up after a while.
10. Memorable tour experience?
It was a few days before Christmas, and Mike and I were playing an acoustic show at Berryville, VA (population 48?). We had a Christmas song or two on the line-up, a good time was being had by all. We got done, and these guys came on next, who looked like they were straight out of The Casualties. They started their set with this: “Who here’s celebrating Christmas? Well we hate Christmas. This song is dedicated to our lord and savior, Satan. It’s called “Eat, S**t, F**k.” After that was the most hardcore punk I’ve ever heard.
11. What does AP.net mean to you
AP.net is an awesome way for me to keep up on the music I like. The format is great because if there’s a story I don’t care about, I simply don’t read it…and then I get all excited when I see the icon of a band I like. I check it a few times a day, and a lot of times its been the source where I learn even major news events.
12. What is your favorite song to play
I think we’d all agree that “Don’t Wait” has been the favorite since the band began. It’s very dynamic and has this building energy throughout it.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Our dad grew up in England, and we’ve been twice already, and it’s so nice there. Everything from the buildings to the parks…it’s awesome.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
On my 4th birthday I got the Vanilla Ice, and MC Hammer tapes…which pretty much changed my life. My parents played a lot of Bruce, Rod Stewart, Tom Petty, and George Thorogood around the house also. And then of course anything from 90’s rock/alternative radio.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
I think teleportation would be the most useful for a band, because touring would be super easy. We could hit up a show in New York, Chicago, and LA all in one night.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Of course not.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I was born with half of an extra digit on the pinkie of my left hand. Mike M. was in my mom’s Sunday school class in second grade (7 years before we met). Mike B. is going to be a guidance counselor at a middle school. Scott has been The Cat in the Hat, Schroeder from Peanuts, Davy Crockett, Danny Zuko from Grease, and Demetrius from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in different plays he’s been in.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Any holiday that we get off of school, because we can play shows and record.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
We’re all in college, so that takes up a lot of time. I’m a huge soccer fan…I love playing and watching soccer. Scott does a lot of theater stuff. Mike M. knits sweaters with elderly ladies, and Mike B. gets super ripped at the gym.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I can belly dance and make myself as skinny as an Olsen twin, or look 9 months pregnant. Scott sings better than I do. Mike B. plays basically every instrument better than I do, and also the cello. Mike M. covers Beyonce songs better than Sasha Fierce herself.

03:23 PM on 01/07/09 | Band: Shineout Libretto www.myspace.com/shineout
Answered by: Bobby Peterson (drums)
1. How did you get your band name?
SHINEOUT LIBRETTO was just originally Shineout but then people got us confused with ShineDOWN. Ever heard of 'em? So we decided to tag on a word. Our bassist and I were both in music classes in college so we flipped through our books and found 'libretto' which means lyrics. BAM!
2. How did this band get started?
2 of us were in a metal band in high school while the other 2 were in a pop punk band. Both bands broke up so we decided to get together our senior year.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Taking Back Sunday, Rufio, Story of the Year, Green Day, Blink, JEW.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
Blink because we all love fart jokes. Story of the Year because we love to get drunk and be stupid. Jimmy Eat World so we could watch their set every night!
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
Bunny. It's an inside joke...
6. Why should people listen to your band?
While we truly believe every band deserves a solid listen, SL needs a listen because we actually know how to play our instruments (listen to any 10 random bands on Myspace and tell me they know what they're doing) and we have 3 part harmonies that will knock your socks off.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
"Sketch Hop" because each individual instrument have interesting parts. It would be easy enough for most people to play so I would say it would be MEDIUM difficulty.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
The fans, our parents, especially David's dad because we practiced in his basement for 4 years.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
For labels to sign bands with integrity instead of a look or carbon-copy sound. Also, for Auto-Tune to not exist ever again. Ever.
10. Memorable tour experience?
When playing at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, we got a room at the Holiday Inn. It was the kind of hotel where all the rooms face each other and in the center there was the pool/hot tub and whatnot. Well, Josh decided to pull his pants down and sit on the window sill so all the passserbyers could see his white ass. A father and son saw it and trold the front desk and we got kicked out after being there for about 2 hours. We played at a Battle of the Bands later that night and we won. What was our prize? A headlining spot at the university's spring outdoor concert and A FREE HOTEL ROOM.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
AP was shown to me by our bassist 2 years ago and I've checked it every day since. I love it because it talks about bands that many people like myself enjoy, with the occassional headline about something random. The site has style and it has a great (sometimes predictable) community. I love it.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
One of our most rocking song is a song called "Show Stopper". The name says it all.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Florida because I can never get enough of the sunshine.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
CLASSIC ROCK! That's all my parents listened to in the car. That and oldies.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
The power to kill a yak from 50 yards away with mind bullets...
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Not even close. Since we started our senior year of high school we all went to different colleges, which was difficult for us to practice and play shows. Now that we all live in Chicago, we are cracking down and practicing constantly. Big things are coming up for SL.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
We have 7 drum tracks recorded for our full-length.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Halloween. Mostly because I attended Ohio University.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Write drum parts for high school drumlines, teach in the summer, running, lurk on AP.NET. haha
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I can make a 3 leaf clover with my tongue.

03:24 PM on 01/07/09 | 1.

04:09 PM on 01/07/09 | Burritos and New Found Glory. LEFT ON EMPIRE --Saint Charles, MO
www.myspace.com/leftonempire
1. How did you get your band name? Well, our drummer lives on Empire Drive. You take a left to get on his street. Not the most creative thing in the world, but we liked it better than our old name, Dingledine.
2. How did this band get started? The other three members in the band started it out of boredom, and they had always wanted to be in a band. I joined about a year and a half after the formation.
3. What bands are you influenced by? Starting out, our main influences were Blink-182, New Found Glory, and Green Day. Some newer bands that have influenced us have been Set Your Goals and Four Year Strong. We were amazed when we heard FYS, and they influence the harder side of us. Some personal influences for myself however are MxPx, Alkaline Trio, New Found Glory, and Saves the Day.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why? New Found Glory seem like great dudes, and hilarious, so I think that would be the main band I would want to tour with if I could pick any band. Four Year Strong, Red Car Wire, or The Wonder Years would be way cool also.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal? I'll have to go with a bear. Bears are fierce.
6. Why should people listen to your band? We are just four kids trying to have fun playing the music we love to make. If no one else, we love our own songs, and we'd like other people to share a similar love with us.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert? Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die by Four Year Strong. The drums would be insane, and actually I don't even know how that would play out, without a double bass pedal. And the pinch harmonics would be nuts.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank? Our fans, families, friends, and anyone who would've helped us achieve the Grammy.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be? Record labels signing so many bands that sound exactly like each other. So many bands sound so similar to one another, and always tour with one another, and it just gets boring to me. No matter what genre, there are always bands that sound just like another labelmate.
10. Memorable tour experience? First out of town show ever, our van breaks down at the border of the next state. We had to drive back at midnight, and couldn't go over 45 the entire way home, on the interstate. What would've been a four hour drive turned into a seven and a half hour drive.
11. What does AP.net mean to you? I think AP is great. It gives so many bands exposure to thousands of people every day. It also entertains me, and keeps me informed. I love AP!
12. What is your favorite song to play? A new song that we just wrote, called "Coming True." Whenever we write a new song, that turns in to my favorite to play. Playing new material is always refreshing to us as a band, even though fans like to hear older stuff. I think that's how most bands feel.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice? I went to Cozumel, Mexico when I was younger with my family. I think about going back now with friends, and it would be one hell of a time. Anywhere with a beach and good time.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood? 90's radio tunes, for sure. Anywhere from Third Eye Blind to Ricky Martin, I love 90's hits. New Found Glory's self-titled record was my favorite for quite some time growing up.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why? To be able to fly. I believe that flying would be the single coolest thing ever. I could do so many more things. Being invisible would also be sweet. I could do a lot more things that people wouldn't find out about haha
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"? Not at all, haha. We're actually just starting out. We're a year shy of graduating from high school, and we do it just because we love playing shows, and love making music. While I hope someday to "make it," I'm not even sure I really understand what that means at this point. I think there's always something more to achieve, some way to better yourself, or your music.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you? I'm a seventeen year old kid from suburban Missouri. That's pretty much about it, I go to a lame Catholic high school, and am ready to move on from that.
18. What's your favorite holiday? Halloween or New Year's Eve. Always the best parties.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time? Watch movies. I go to the movie theater by myself when no one will go with me. I'm always interested in some movie playing.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have? Well, collectively, we are THE best Mario Super Strikers and NBA Hoopz players ever. I'm not even kidding, challenge us. We will win.
|
08:07 PM on 01/07/09 | 1. How did you get your band name? I, The Vocalist, thought of it while we were listening to Four Year Strong's "Abandon Ship..." I just thought hey! anchor's away!
2. How did this band get started? Our Other band Day One Broke up, so we wanted to do something heavier.
3. What bands are you influenced by? We Came As Romans, Attack Attack!, I See Stars, MyChidren Mybride, August Burns red, And Underoath, mostly
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why? Probably The bands Above, because it would be great to play with our heroes.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal? platypus, because its the only mammal that lays eggs, DUHH! haha
6. Why should people listen to your band? because we try really hard to write our own music, and we are all very young to be a band with as much success as we have.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert? Probably, The Black Squares Are Lava Too, because its a heavy, catchy song.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank? God, family, friends, and anyone who ever supported us.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be? making people change their sound!
10. Memorable tour experience? Never toured..
11. What does AP.net mean to you? whaaaa????
12. What is your favorite song to play? all of them, they're soo fun.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice? anywhere, but Slatington, PA!!!! hahaha
14. What music reminds you of your childhood? HAIR METAL!!!!!
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why? invincibility, it would be awesome to live forever.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"? NO WAY, we want to though!
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you? i dont know really, if our fans ask us something we'll answer it.
18. What's your favorite holiday? gotta love new years partys =]
19. What do you like to do in your spare time? write more music and practice.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have? we can all play eachothers instruments well.

7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
Three's Company, Four's a Gang! It wouldn't be technically hard, though it'd be one of those songs that are fun to play and rock out.

05:08 AM on 01/10/09 | Gladiators Eat Fire
www.gladiatorseatfire.com
www.myspace.com/gladiatorseatfire
1. How did you get your band name?
It came to us in a collective dream
2. How did this band get started?
It was a night like any other, I was drunk and vocalist Mark was stoned and we decided to start jamming. I had been playing guitar in two other bands and drums in another, he had never played music before but he picked up a bass that night. We got our friend James to drum with us. That jam turned into our first song, It's Awake-O-Clock, Bitch!.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
At The Drive-In, The Beatles, Brand New, mewithoutYou, Muse, Refused, and every other piece of music I've ever heard
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
The Beatles, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Jimi Hendrix, Sublime, Muse. These are all musicians I highly respect and who's music I find incredible, and I think hanging out with them on tour would be both extremely chill and educational.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
A wolf. Not sure, it's just a gut feeling.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
I think we're attempting to make new noise out of all the things we love about music, whether or not it comes off that way to anyone. We love what we do, and our passion shows through the songs we write. Everyone seems to love us, from 6 year old girls to 70 year old men. We're not metal, really.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
It's Awake-o-Clock, Bitch! ( some dude keeps talking about it on some forums ), it'd probably be pretty easy.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Everyone involved with the recording, and all the heroes who laid the groundwork for us.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Basically make the book "The Future of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution" real
10. Memorable tour experience?
Everyone in the car so tired we kept falling asleep at the wheel, switching drivers, repeat, until a semi nearly killed us and scared the shit out of us enough to keep us awake, mostly. As soon as I started nodding off in the passenger seat I'd jolt awake because I was so worried the driver would crash.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
I've been reading AP.net since Mest's Destination Unknown was the featured album and my best friends older brother was doing CD reviews of MxPx under the moniker "PunkBastards". It represents growth in the music community and the power anyone has to start something great if they only have the passion and the drive.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
The newest one we've written (right now it's codename Chariot)
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Anywhere in nature.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
The Beastie Boys and Blink-182.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
The ability to create matter from nothing. Ideally cannabis. Ideally in my pockets.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Not yet, but we will. We're starting. Just keep watching.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
We're all really nice, laid back guys. Our personalities don't match our music at all. Or do they?
18. What's your favorite holiday?
I hate holidays
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play music, listen to music, write music, etc... watch movies?
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
The kind that aren't very hidden, nor very talented.
21. what does each band member contribute to writing a song/album?/how do you go about writing a song? (from steveC)
One of us will come up with a part, or an idea for a part, and show it to one or more of the rest of us. We then add instrumentation from everyone and build the skeleton of the song, develop the flow of it. Vocals start being written over what is done, and over time each instrument refines until the song is considered perfect. Either that, or we just start jamming and magic happens.

07:36 PM on 01/12/09 | BAND NAME = The Fire Fight
Members:
Nick: Lead Guitar
Joe: Rhythm Guitar
Rob: Bass
Giuseppe: Drums
1. How did you get your band name?
-It kind of just came out of no where. We needed a name quick to play a show, and thats what we decided on unfortunalty. It was an idea I (rob, bass) had.
And then we realized it was also a from that awesome line in Boondock Saints.
2. How did this band get started?
-We started around 2004 with totally different members. Lost a bass player and Rob joined. Chris the guitarist got kicked out in late 04. Then we played as a three piece for almost 3 years and finally got our new lead guitarist Nick in 07/08
3. What bands are you influenced by?
-too many and also we have a lot of different influences.
Main ones are New found glory, thrice, Blink 182, Further seems forever and H20.
What ever we hear that we like though is really what we're influenced by.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
-Thrice due to their very influential and inspiring sounds.
New Found Glory just because it would be a lot of fun.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
-Nick: A koala, because though cute they have sharp nails that will hurt you.
Rob: A Chihuahua because then i can ride around in Paris Hiltons purse.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
-1, because we have so many influences it gives a unique sound
2, we like having fun and think our music gives off that vibe
3, we're not trying to rip people off and be cheesy and generic. We think you could compare us to other people but we don't do exactly what they do, which seems to be a reoccurring theme in todays music scene.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
-Our song Three words, just because its a classic/favorite of our fans and friends because its been around for literally five years and its catchy as hell. and it wouldn't be that hard on expert
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
-All our friends who came out to have fun with us at shows and who were supportive and made us band t shirts just using spray paint
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
- A lot. First off stop signing crappy bands who hardly even sound good on recordings. If you can play well live then you deserve it.
10. Memorable tour experience?
-Haven't gone on any real tours, but from the few shows we played they've all been a lot of fun. One good story is how our guitarist Joe half way through a song stopped playing just so he could take off his sweater. but it was all in good fun and we laugh about it now. and at our last show we threw lollipops at the crowd.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
-It means the world, we literally check it every day. its where we get our news on all music.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
- Of our own, our song Period. Covers, there are many.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?

-Rob: Caribbean
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
-Tom Petty, The Beatles, N'ysnc, MXPX, Blink 182, Hanson.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
-Nick: Cure diseases/power to heal
-Rob: Fly and move shit with my mind
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
-Musically yes, touring wise no.
we put out a lot of demos and recorded and really put a lot of hard work into making
our songs sound good.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
-We all met when we were pretty young. We started playing when we were all around 13
18. What's your favorite holiday?
-Nick: Arbor Day
-Rob: Christmas
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
-Make music, which is what we did right before we filled this out
and watch TNA on thursdays
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?

02:04 PM on 09/04/09 | E-mailed this. Thought it might be interesting for people who see this thread to read it? I don't know.
Hey, what's up? This is Drew Shuck from the band Get Down!
1. How did you get your band name?
There's a Four Year Strong song called Catastrophe with the lyric "Save your breath and get down with me." Our guitarist, Nick and our vocalist, Tristan took the name from that. We decided to keep it based on its appearance in songs by just about every band we've ever loved. (i.e. "The World" by The Starting Line, "The Future Freaks Me Out" by Motion City Soundtrack, "Soco Amaretto Lime" by Brand New, and so on and so forth.)
2. How did this band get started?
It began as a completely different band. Nick and Tristan came to Alex and Drew with the idea of quitting their current band and starting a new one with the goal of "sounding more like Name Taken/The Starting Line-type stuff." Then the drummer and guitarist quit their band and Alex joined on guitar. Drew started playing drums but wasn't an official member until the original vocalist/guitarist of the other band was removed from the lineup and the band was exactly how it had been intended to be: Drew on drums, Nick on guitar, Alex on guitar & Tristan on bass and vocals. After a few months of doing things this way, we added Zach on bass to free up Tristan to be a frontman and give our live show a little extra boost.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
The Starting Line, Midtown, The Movielife, Set Your Goals, Give Up The Ghost, Brand New, Thursday, Weatherbox, Say Anything, New Found Glory, Saves The Day... there are so many. Basically any band that makes music because they love making music, without regard to trends, what's cool, and getting rich & famous.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
We would all probably agree on The Starting Line & Saves The Day. We all have our personal favorite bands that we'd like to tour with, but those two bands have collectively influenced us the most.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
A raccoon. I hit one while I was driving my car the other day and I feel like there is one less in the world than there should be, now. Or I'd be a dog so I could scare all the cats that live in our house.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
We write music that we want to hear. We never sit down and say, "do you think people would like this part? Would people like this song?" We just write songs that we enjoy. It gives a lot more of a personal connection to our audience. We may not gain billions of fans doing things that way, but when someone catches on and loves your band or your songs and your only goal in writing those songs was to make something you enjoyed, then you know that they really get it. You have something a little more personal in common with the listener and it makes for a really rewarding experience.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
I'm not really sure. We'd probably pick the last track off our upcoming EP. It's the title track, called "Terminal." The drums and guitars in the song are really fun and the rhythms are really interesting. It might not be the most difficult song on expert, but it'd be fun.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Our parents, our friends. Whoever produced the record that we won with. Our fans. The standard people, probably. But we would also probably thank Wild Bruce*.
*See question 10.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
I don't know if I'd change anything about the industry, except I think that labels should be made to be more creative and receptive to dealing with illegal downloading and the internet culture. Their old business models are obviously failing, and they need to do something to stay relevant or they are going to die out. I'd also change the way this scene has evolved, if I could. People are always griping about bands like Millionares and Brokencyde and all of that. There have always been those bands. There have always been horrible pseudo-musicians making money playing other peoples' songs or writing terrible, terrible songs themselves and somehow getting rich. But those "artists" weren't on Warped Tour. They weren't doing tours with real bands. If I could change one thing, I'd force all of the artists who sit back, rely on their image and let someone else write their records out of our scene.
10. Memorable tour experience?
Wild Bruce was an old dude living in a motel that we stayed at on tour in Denver, Colorado and he was absolutely insane. He did body shots off of our guitar player. Probably the first night where we all sat back and went, "These are the kinds of things we're going to do and see. Things that no one else will ever experience. This is something really special." It sounds really deep to say that about a creepy old dude in a motel, but really this band is just about having experiences that most people don't have. We're all between 18 and 20 years old, and we're just trying to make the most out of life and do what we love.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
AP.net is a great place. It exposes people to new artists. It's also full of kids who sit around and complain about music. Which is great, really. Everyone wants to decry it when it's their band being torn apart, but without open criticism there's really no catalyst for improvement. There are some people that could do a better job of respecting other peoples' opinions and trying to have fair-minded, intelligent conversation, but I think that's just a given in all aspects of life. Overall I think it's a good thing. It gives people a place to hear new things, discuss things, and it gives smaller bands a chance to connect with an audience that's really interested in music.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
This is probably different for everyone in the band. My favorite song to play would be the first track off our upcoming EP. It's called "The Night James Brown Saved Boston" and it's a really fun song on drums. It's the song that changed the most between doing demos for this EP and actually recording it. I think the growth of it has us all really excited about it. I could say the same about the other five songs, but that one is the most fun to play on drums.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
We all love Chicago. Absolutely love it. We'd play there every weekend if we could.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
My early childhood wasn't very music-filled. Mostly country and radio, etc. As early as I can remember being a fan of music, I loved Third Eye Blind, Fastball, Gin Blossoms, Chevelle, etc. When I really started discovering the bands that made me want to play in a band, it was New Found Glory, The Starting Line, The Movielife, Saves The Day, Hot Rod Circuit... basically anything off of the old Drive-Thru & Vagrant records rosters circa 2002-2003.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
Flight, with the ability to have anything I touched fly with me. Touring would be way easier and we'd save fortunes on gas.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Not at all. We're just a hardworking band that tours in cars (our van breaks down literally every time we try to hit the road) and plays on borrowed gear most of the time to 10-200 kids depending on the night. We just love playing music. We didn't grow up listening to bands who wrote a bunch of songs in a studio and then got signed before playing shows. We grew up listening to bands that toured their asses off until someone stood up and took notice. So that's the kind of band we want to be.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
We're really boring. I mean, we're fun guys to hang out with. Nick, Zach & Tristan are especially funny when they're all together. We've all got a good sense of humor and you'd have a good time hanging out with us. But people have ridiculous standards for people who are in bands these days. Like they think every night is just a party on a bus with drunk 15 year olds. Most nights on tour we're chilling on a random couch in someone's house with the other bands we're on tour with having drinks and being ridiculous, making each other laugh. Drew and Nick both have Pokémon on their computers and play it frequently. Tristan and Drew are huge Dragonball fans. We're just nerds who like music and are lucky enough to play it with four other dudes who have the same goals.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Christmas, because we're all broke all of the time and most of the time our parents will be cool enough to buy us some neat things that we need or give us a little bit of money.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play Pokémon, watch TV, write new songs, plan tours, talk to people on MySpace/Twitter/Facebook. We're not super exciting.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
Tristan does this weird joint displacement thing with his wrist. Or maybe it's his elbow. Drew can touch his nose with his tongue. Nick can handle more alcohol than anyone else I've ever met. Alex can grow a beard like no other. Zach knows how to do just about everything, from fixing cars to owning his own lawn care business to fixing guitars and amps. We probably appreciate Zach the most because he could easily be doing a million things that would make him more money than playing in this band, but he loves music just as much as the rest of us.
