Lovehatehero - White Lies
Record Label: Ferret Records
Release Date:February 19, 2007
When I first saw White Lies sitting on a shelf at my local Hot Topic, I wondered where this band had came from. The post hardcore rockers from Los Angeles, California took me by complete surprise.
White Lies starts out with a fast paced guitar and very impressive vocals. Kevin "Thrasher" Gruft strikes hard in every song with face melting leads and mixes well with the other two guitarists. Scott Gee does an excellent job on drums (see: beginning of "Hollywoodemia") and also creates the piano parts used in many of the songs ("Red Dress"). Pierrick Berube does an amazing job leading Lovehatehero with his soaring vocals, deep growls, and very catchy lyrics.
This album is pretty even overall, but it has a few tracks that make you want to go back and listen again. For example, "Red Dress" displays all the qualities of Lovehatehero and also shows their post hardcore roots. "She Puts The Ho In Homewrecker" displays the metalcore influence from the recent addition of guitarist Kevin "Thrasher" Gruft.
Lovehatehero does an excellent job of showcasing all the talent they have to offer. If you can, go pick up White Lies. But be ready for another solid release from Lovehatehero in 2009.
As for the album I could never get into these guys, maybe one or two songs. They never caught on much to me. (Of course I feel the same way about the RIYL band Before Their Eyes, that might be why).
