I know I'll get flamed for this but I really don't like the overall production on the album. But that's due to the fact that I've never been a big fan of Brendan O'Brien. Apart from three of the four Springsteen albums he's done, there's only one other album he's ever produced that I liked the result of and that was Mastodon's Crack The Skye.
Otherwise his penchant for making everything sound huge as possible often ends up being overkill. See: Working on a Dream.
I mean the album is good, no question. It just sounds too slick for my liking in some parts.
I actually really don't like O'Brien's production on those Springsteen albums. It still works out fine on The Rising and Magic, but I believe someone on this site once put it best when they said that "he makes the E-Street band sound shrinkwrapped." I actually really dig the production here though, so I don't know.
