Great review! All the comparisons you made and influences you mapped were spot on. Loved how you heard Van Morrison in Diamond Street. Never thought of that before but now that you bring it up, I definitely see where you're coming from.

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I've always felt that Diamond Street was somewhere between Morrison and Adam Duritz, and since I'd already mentioned Counting Crows, I went with the former.

Biloxi Parish has to be my favorite TGA song yet, so fuckin' good.

I think I agree. That guitar riff is incredible.

Their show in Albany last night was amazing. All I need is for my vinyl to come in and I will be completely happy.

after my first listen, initial favorites are "Handwritten," "Too Much Blood," and "Mae." I really like this album, although I can't see it topping In Currents as my AOTY

"mae" is gorgeous. i wouldn't have mind it if the album ended right there. "national anthem" is a sweet plus.

my absolute favorite of the year right now. we'll see how that new propagandhi record turns out. or american aquarium's.

Agreed. I feel like it's their most mature and complete song, absolutely the album standout. It's got the best of both worlds of Fallon's writing, in that the verses are dripping with classic rock influences and the chorus is the signature Gaslight that's half radio rock-y and half straight up who-cares-what-this-is-classified rock. And the melody in the bridge is perfect. Just all around fantastic song.

Too much blood is the only song that I skip sometimes. That chorus just gets annoying sometimes.

Too Much Blood is a good song, but I also find myself skipping it. It's not that it's bad, it's that everything else on the album is just so much better.

I skip Desire most of the time. This album, like American Slang, probably just needs time to grow on me. It took months for American Slang to really hit me.

Anyone notice the reference to "Nightswimming" by REM in Blue Dahlia?

I was glad to see that this makes 3 albums in a row where the opener is one of the best songs. And no, I didn't catch the reference but I'm gonna listen to that track right now for it.

I like "Too Much Blood" but it kind of drags it down for me so I've skipped that one most often.
